Bacon-Flavored Seaweed That Is Better For You Than Kale?

There’s a huge amount of new discoveries coming from the science world these days, but this might be one of our favorites!
Researchers have found a strain of seaweed that has DOUBLE the nutritional value of kale (and you know we rave about kale!) …AND it tastes like BACON when fried!
I’m not even pulling your leg.
Is it even possible for all of us health-pursuing peeps to fathom a new superfood that is bacon-flavored and packed with nutrients?
It might be even better news for our readers who have long believed that ‘healthy’ is just another way of saying ‘flavorless’, ‘green’ and ‘unsatisfying’.
Dulce, what is being called a ‘miracle seaweed’, is a strain of red marine algae that grows in the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines. It is fast-growing and looks a lot like a head of red see-through lettuce.
The scientific community has actually known about dulce for years. It’s packed with protein, antioxidants and vitamins and is sold most commonly as a nutritional supplement or dry cooking ingredient in Europe. Not many people in the U.S. have used it fresh.
Lucky for us, scientists at Oregon State University have been toying around with this funky seaweed for the past few years and have created a new strainthat can be farmed and served in multiple ways on traditional american tables.
But during the researching process, what was originally going to be a superfood for abalone became what could potentially be a new human superfood and an entirely new industry for Oregon.
According to Dr. Langdon, their newly patented strain is indeed fast-growing and they are currently growing 20-30 pounds every week. That amount could easily be tripled once things get off the ground.
Will dulce be the new bacon? Is this to be a new revolution for those who don’t (or can’t) eat meat like vegetarians and vegans? If ducle is able to be grown and harvested for a good price will it help to solve a growing hunger problem in the U.S. and around the world?
Although the flavor of dulce has yet to be independently verified, once it is and if it tastes as good as these researchers are saying it does, the possibilities for this bacon-wanna-be seaweed are endless.
