Are You Stuck? Find Clarity With These 3 Questions
Written by: Lindsay Sibson
It is such an interesting endeavor, isn’t it?
Sometimes it’s happy, other times it’s sad… Sometimes it’s exciting, other times it’s totally mundane. And of course there is the saying, “that’s LIFE” whenever things get a bit crazy!
I’ve had my ups, downs and all arounds and through those experiences I have come to discover that when I am feeling stressed, depressed, or in duress, I need to STOP and have a serious internal conversation with myself about what is TRULY going on.
If you are having “one of those days” or are confused about WHAT to do about a situation in your life, here are 3 simple questions that will help you get clarity.
1. What is in my control?
This simple question can do WONDERS in regards to how you feel and react to various situations. If you find yourself upset or frustrated, ask yourself, “Is this in my control?” meaning, can your personal actions change the situation? If the answer is YES, then take action!
For example, if you’re stressed out at work and dread going there every day, start applying for other positions and make it your priority (because complaining about your job won’t change it). If the situation is out of your control, such as you are stuck in traffic or it is pouring rain, make a conscious decision to NOT let the circumstances affect how you feel. Instead, find a creative way to leverage it (such as listening to a book you want to read while in the car).
2. Is “it” contributing to my happiness and life vision?
First of all, create a compelling life vision that excites you! If you haven’t already, sit down and write out what you want in all areas of your life (health, career, relationships, spirituality and financial). Anytime you find yourself in doubt or confused about what to do, ask yourself, “Is this really what I want in my life?”
This particularly helps in social situations when you are confronted with invitations or offered another cocktail or dessert at an event. Learn how to exercise saying NO to things that aren’t contributing to your overall happiness and life vision… without guilt.
3. Am I listening to my gut?
Always, always, always go with your gut feeling. That little voice inside of you giving you guidance is your best friend… listen to him or her!
When making decisions, tune into your true feelings and make decisions based on what it is that YOU want and not what outside influences are telling or pressuring you to do. Ultimately, you will be the one who lives with the consequences of your decisions and actions, so make sure you are paying attention to what your gut feelings and intuitions are telling you!
When your life gets a bit unclear and you aren’t certain as to what to do, turn to these questions to get a better understanding of what it is you want and desire. By using these 3 questions regularly, you will keep your attention focused on the things that matter to you most in your life and bring you happiness and fulfillment.
