Are Holiday Foods Making You Fat? Try This Recipe! – Saturday Strategy

The holidays can be a minefield if you are trying to live a healthy lifestyle!

Are you one of those people who rationalizes eating lots of foods that you wouldn’t otherwise simply because “it’s the holidays” and “it only happens once a year”?

Today,  I will show you what triggers are adding to the weight gain. I will also, give you an amazing recipe that I make to help burn the belly fat and beat the bloat. IF you get just one thing from this article, hit the share button below and get this in front of the people that you love.

Holiday Weight Gain

You may be thinking… how can I help you lose weight if I’ve never been overweight myself? Well, did you know I used to be 40 pounds heavier? Yep. I’ve been there and I know what it’s like to look in the mirror and not like what you see… to not feel confident or sexy in your own body. It is really tough!

The holidays were oftentimes the hardest for me to keep my weight under control. So I know the next few months are going to be tricky! But once you learn these few skills I’m going to teach you, you’ll be able to walk in and out of the holiday season feeling confident! And, if you’re committed, not a pound heavier.

In fact, if you make these lifestyle changes and not just holiday changes, these swaps can help you LOSE weight in the long run!

When I finally lost my extra weight, I felt better about ME. More confidence. More self love. Exactly what the world needs more of! 🙂

The truth is, statistics say that the average person only gains about 3.5 pounds between thanksgiving and new years.

That’s not such a big deal right? I can easily shed those pounds off at crossfit in January!

Well, the problem is – statistics ALSO say that most people DO NOT manage to lose those pounds. Maybe because they don’t notice they gained them, or they are not significant enough to make them worry.

THEY STICK ON THESE UNWANTED POUNDS EVERY YEAR!

YEAR AFTER YEAR IT GETS WORSE AND WORSE… Until one year, it’s too late… that person ends up sick or worse yet, in the hospital.

So what is it about the holidays that make people lose control?

The Biggest Holiday Triggers

Stress – as adults, the holidays tend to be associated with a lot of stress, which leads to emotional eating.

Broken routines – traveling, time off work, lots of time sitting around and visiting… way more opportunities to eat junk that you wouldn’t normally touch.

Emotional associations – this is the biggest culprit in my opinion! When Grandma makes you that sweet dish that you’ve had every year since you were 2… there ain’t no getting around it!!

Social pressure – many people are of the opinion that the holidays are a time to relax, kick back and let go of normal eating habits and commitments. And of course, they want you to relax with them and not make them feel bad by sticking to a healthy diet! So, HELLO peer pressure!

7 Food Swaps For The Holidays

Here’s 7 quick and easy food swaps to make over the holidays to help you stick with your goals and walk out of the holidays better than you walked into them!!

#1 Instead vegetable oil, use healthy fats like coconut oil, grass-fed butter and pastured eggs!

Studies have actually found that people who prioritize healthy fats during the holidays experienced less weight gain, lower body fat percentage and fewer negative emotions! WOW!

Contrary to what many people believe, eating fat does NOT necessarily make you fat! Healthy fats are vital to proper cell function, brain function and energy. So don’t be afraid to fill your holiday recipes with delicious and immune-boosting fats like coconut oil, grass-fed butter, ghee, olive oil, raw/sprouted nuts and seeds, MCT oil, avocado oil, wild-caught fatty fish, pastured eggs, etc!

#2 Instead of candied yams and snacks, try roasted sweet potatoes!

Candied yams pack about 340 calories per cup and are full of sugar! Sweet potatoes are enough to satisfy your sweet tooth and are full of vitamins and minerals that boost your immune system, promote relaxation, regulate heartbeat and nerve signals and protect against signs of aging.

Never cooked with sweet potatoes before? Try some of our favorite recipes:

Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Sweet Potato Fries

Turmeric Sweet Potato Dip

Vegetable Candy

Sweet Potato Bacon Bites

#3 Instead of chips and crackers with dip, try fresh raw veggies and hummus or yogurt dips!

This will help you feel lighter and give you all the benefits of raw veggies while avoiding the empty and potentially harmful effects of starchy refined carbs. If you enjoy being in the kitchen, you can even make hummus yourself! Here are a few creative recipes:

Regular Hummus

Pumpkin Hummus

Beet Hummus

Sprouted Hummus

#4 Instead of eggnog, drink apple cider or homemade raw cacao hot chocolate!

Eggnog is packed with sugar and calories. Opt for a drink that will have great benefits for your health like Raw Cacao Hot Chocolate.

#5 Instead of potatoes, try mashed cauliflower!

Don’t judge it until you try it!! Here is our recipe.

Cauliflower has some impressive health benefits that no one talks about! It is full of immune-boosting antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. Not only that, but cauliflower has been shown to have anticancer properties.

#6 Instead of sugar-filled cranberry sauce, make cranberry relish or sugar-free sauce!

Cranberries are impressively high in anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. Maximize their health benefits without adding unnecessary sugar and calories.

Here is Wellness Mama’s recipe for Healthy Cranberry Sauce!

Or you can try Sugar-Free Cranberry Relish with raw honey and cinnamon!

#7 Instead of store bought stuffing, make raw superfood stuffing!

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
