Are Green Juice Powders Healthy?

I don’t know about you, but when I first started getting introduced to green juice powders, one of the first questions I had was, “are green juice powders actually healthy?”

Another common question is “are green juice powders as healthy as regular green juice?”

The simple answer to both questions is: YES!

But when you break it down, even while benefits can be reaped from both types of juices, there are pros and cons to both types and deciding between the two can come down to needs and preferences.

Regular Green Juice Breakdown

Juicing has become insanely popular over the past several years and has become a major go-to for many people when it comes to getting their greens in through quick, efficient methods.

Breaking down veggies into juice form helps take a lot of the digestive work out of consumption, helping your body to absorb the nutrients faster and reap the benefits (particularly energy, immunity and focus benefits) in a shorter time frame. The fibrous nature of veggies is removed from the ingredients and makes way for things like vitamins, minerals and sugars to be taken in by your digestive system and distributed throughout your body.

The downside to stripping away the fibrous quality of vegetables is that fiber is necessary for digestive health and heart health and also helps prevent the body’s blood sugar levels from spiking. For these reasons, it’s also important to make sure you are also including whole veggies and other healthy sources of fiber in your diet to keep that necessary fiber present.

Making green juices also allows a bit more creative room when it comes to selecting which ingredients you want and mixing in additional ingredients to help develop the taste you want. Each juice is different and fresh and provides varied benefits depending on what ingredients you decide to use. You have more control over taste and quality and you also know exactly what’s going into your juice.

Overall, green juices are a great way to get nutrients into your system quick and make it easier to get a good amount of your greens in.

Green Juice Powder Breakdown

Juice powders have also grown in popularity over the past couple years and a lot of that has to do with their convenient nature.

Juice powders are similar when it comes to how quickly your body is able to absorb their nutrients. They go through a different creation process (typically freeze-drying and grounding), but the fibrous content tends to be similar to regular juicing, which is why, again, it’s important to remember to also keep healthy sources of fiber in your diet. One thing that really differentiates regular juices from juice powders though is calorie content – juice powders tend to be lower in calories, which can make a difference for people who pay specific attention to caloric intake.

Juice powders have an advantage over regular juices when it comes to shelf-life. As long as powders are kept in cool, dark environments, they can typically last for up to 2 years, as opposed to fresh produce which typically needs to be used within a week. They are also simpler to make and greatly reduce the potential of making a mess. Juice powders can also be used as an ingredient in many different recipes, such as smoothies, acai bowls, yogurts, juices, desserts, etc.

When it comes to the taste of juice powders, it can be a bit more strict as taste will vary depending on the specific products and what ingredients are incorporated. It can be easy to go for products that use added sugars and fillers to aid with taste, but it’s highly recommended to find a juice powder that’s made with all natural, organic ingredients that naturally provide sweetness and flavor (such as Organifi Green Juice), as opposed to artificial additives and fillers.

When it comes to which option is best, it really comes down to preference and which type of juicing best fulfills your needs. If you are passionate about creating your own juices and experimenting with different ingredients and methods, then regular green juices are likely an excellent option for you. If you are someone who’s constantly on the go, doesn’t have the time to spend in the kitchen and needs something quick and easy, then green juice powders are likely the better option for you.
