An Up-And-Coming Drive-Thru Salad Bar Could Threaten Legacy Fast Food Chains

Written by: Emilyn Gil

The thing about “fast food” is that it’s really only half true. Yes, you can get it really fast, but you’re always left wondering whether or not it’s really food.

And most of the time it really isn’t. At least not the kind of food that’s going to do your body any favors.

So you know this, but somehow you find yourself once again reaching out your car window for a quick burrito or burger, because you either don’t have time to cook up something yourself, or don’t want to spend 20 bucks on a healthier choice.

Well you’re in for a surprise, because a new chain is offering a third option.

Salad and Go!

Salad and Go is a fast food restaurant that sells 48 ounce salads for $5.74. No really, just $5.74 with the option to add chicken, steak, tofu, or shrimp for an extra 2 dollars. They also sell soups, smoothies and breakfasts for around $4. And the best part is you don’t have to leave your car!

As with most fast food restaurants, the price and speed may cause you to question the quality of the ingredients, but question no longer. All Salad and Go’s ingredients are fresh, whole and natural with no preservatives, nothing artificial and no processed sugars or syrups. There are also options for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and other preferences so you really can order healthy food exactly how you want it, when you want it.

You may think, how can Salad and Go possibly sell such good food for such a low price? Well this is actually in large part due to the drive-thru style. The operational costs for Salad and Go are low because each location is about 650-square-feet without interior seating. Genius!

At the moment Salad and Go has 10 locations in Arizona, but its founders say that the plan by the end of 2018 is to open 9 more locations, some of which may be in a second state.

Other traditional fast food brand restaurants are left trying to keep up by adding more vegetable-based items to their menu, but Salad and Go is growing to be quite the competition!

Check out their website and send your support! Maybe your state will be up next for a new Salad and Go location!
