1. Sex will make you happier.

You have heard about the fading interest in sex that seniors gain as they age. Because they have passed the age of intimacy and have explored everything that two opposite sex adults intimately experience, what more could there be?

Well, the truth be told, romance has no age.

Did you know that semen not only contains sperm, but also oxytocin and serotonin, the two main feel-good hormones? That means that intimacy can actually BOOST your happiness and leave you feeling great on more than just a physical level.

This can be a great way to relieve common depression after age 65 (according to the American Psychiatric Association) and other prevalent mental health issues in seniors.

2. Sex will make you content.

Sexual satisfaction is a widely argued issue, particularly amongst women. If you think the second phase of your life can, at the most, include a reasonable amount of intimacy, but certainly not sex, then you are sweetly wronged.

Here’s a shocker for you – about 2/3rds of women were found to be more satisfied with their sex life, according to a study produced in the American Journal of Medicine, even beyond the age of 80. To complete your agreement about how “sex is still satisfying in older years,” a further 67% of women are said to have achieved orgasm, even throughout their aging years.

What Could Hinder Aging Intimacy?

As explained earlier, age has little to do with intimacy. Yet, aging intimacy has some common foes.

1. Lack of sleep – Intimacy may keep you up all night for, ahem, private reasons. However, that does not mean that “no sleep promotes intimacy.” It’s very well known that lack of sleep can take a wild toll on your overall health, so why wouldn’t it on your sex life? Sleep disorders like insomnia are common among the aging population (that means all of us!). Fatigue in general can also cause low libido.

To achieve that “get up and go” feeling, you need to genuinely hit the bed. If your medications or any underlying medical conditions are keeping you up all night like a night owl, it’s best to consult your physician. You also need to keep a tab on your stress levels and external sleep killers such as pets in bed, loud music, a snoring partner, etc.

Remember, there’s hardly any better way to get energized for more intimacy than getting a proper 8-hours of sleep.

2. Weak pelvic floor – The most easy and effective way to deal with a weak pelvic floor is exercising your kegel muscles. What’s best about this exercise is that you can perform it anywhere without the person next to you even knowing about it.

Incontinence, which is lack of bladder control, is another serious problem widely experienced by seniors. This can gravely affect the ability to have sexual sensations and thus the ability to achieve orgasm. Women usually suffer from it when their estrogen levels start sliding down.

The secret to having the best sex life throughout your lifetime is to openly communicate with your partner. Lack of communication has been the #1 reason for marriage failures for many years. Sex and intimacy can offer you much more than you think. Don’t hesitate to take them both with you as you move on into the later years of your life.
