A Simple Trick For Super Healthy Hummus

If I said I loved hummus a decade ago, you would’ve probably looked at me with a puzzled facial expression. “Hmmm…whaaat?”
Today, the grocery stores are flooded with all kinds of brands and flavors of hummus. Chances are you’ve seen them, tried them or have even come to love them.
Hummus is traditionally a Middle Eastern dip made with chickpeas, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and tahini, which is a sesame seed paste. However, nowadays, there are so many flavors and variations from chipotle to peanut butter that it is hardly a traditional dip, but a fun staple. It provides you with protein and a number of essential vitamin and minerals.
However, hummus is can be high in fat due to the olive oil and tahini content. Good fat, but still fat if you are eating a lower-fat diet or simply looking for something lighter.
I’ve been making my own hummus for many years now. It is healthier, as it doesn’t include preservatives, additives and unnatural colors or flavors.
One day, I was looking for something lighter and I wanted to make a hummus that was creamy, yet lower in fat.
Since I did use a little tahini, the result is not fat-free, but I did not use any added oils at all. And let me just reiterate – good fat is not bad! But like I said, sometimes you want something lighter and that’s where this delicious dip comes in.
Achieving creaminess without added oil or extra tahini was actually easy! I used a simple but awesome trick…
You have to take the skin off of the chickpeas! It is such a simple trick: skinless chickpeas make a super creamy hummus. Try it!

- • 2 cups of chickpeas
- • 8 tbsp of water
- 2 – 3 tbsp of lemon juice
- ½ tbsp of tahini
- Salt, pepper, paprika as desired
- Soak the chickpeas overnight.
- In the morning, bring them to boil and cook them for about an hour or so.
- Once they cool down, take the skin off.
- Add all ingredients to the food processor and blend it till creamy. Enjoy!
