You’re not alone, my friend. But don’t worry. I AM HERE FOR YOU.
Are YOU sabotaging your own fat loss results, or is there something else holding you back? Something triggering all kinds of hormones in your brain and making cravings uncontrollable?
I think I have some answers for you.
Today I want to show you nine things that are stalling your fat loss goals!
These sneaky, sometimes seemingly harmless items in your fridge or in your regular habits are crippling your abilities to lose weight and find the energy and vitality you’ve always dreamed of having.
Well, I’ll tell you what – it’s time to blast those sneaky little devils right off of your shelves and out of your body! It’s time to kick all your unhealthy cravings to the curb!
Time to get you that bikini body that you’ve been waiting for the whole entire year!
I promise it is within your reach. Remember: one day at a time. One new habit at a time. I can’t promise it will happen over night but I CAN promise that you are COMPLETELY CAPABLE of getting the body you want and feeling better than you’ve ever felt in your entire life. There are answers. There is a way.
I use to be in your shoes. I use to eat all the unhealthy things I’m about to tell you about and I was fat. I didn’t have hardly any of the muscle that I do now and I didn’t have 1/10th of the energy. But like you, I was determined. I found a way. And it is my mission to show you how YOU can achieve your goals and thrive!
#1 Fast Food
Most of the foods you find at a typical fast-food joint are made in a factory and do not come straight from plants on a farm. They use bleached and genetically modified flour, nasty cooking oils, meat that came from totally stressed-out animals that is filled with antibiotics, steroids and growth hormones, and enough high fructose corn syrup to throw 100 wrenches in anyone’s weight loss plan.
It simply isn’t the stuff we should be eating as often as we do.
Did you see me trying to juice that cheeseburger and fries in the video above? It didn’t go very well! Now I’d like you to think of that juicer as your body… ready and working to take in the best ingredients. When you eat a cheeseburger and fries, you are sending stuff down to your cells that won’t give them the “juice” they need to thrive. It may taste good (fast food companies have figured out the perfect things to mix together to make their food tasty AND addictive! We’ll talk about that more in a minute) but it simply slows your body down, makes your feel heavy and bloated and keeps weight on your body you are trying hard to get out of.
When you go out to eat, be conscious of the food that is served and where it came from. You CAN find many cafes and restaurants that have made it a priority to serve food that is fresh, locally grown or at least free of GMOs and harmful additives. Do your research. Your body will thank you!
This includes most everything that comes in a box from the middle aisles of the grocery store. On most of the ingredients lists you can find things like white sugar, dairy products, GMO wheat (though it won’t tell you it’s GMO) GMO corn (same story), corn syrup, soy, soy lecithin, artificial this and artificial that, food dyes and probably a whole cart full of ingredients you don’t even recognize.
See my Saturday Strategy here on how to successfully perimeter shop the grocery store and find everything you need to feed your family and keep them happy, healthy and CLEAN on the inside!
Learning to cut processed foods out of your diet can be TRICKY. But it is possible, you just have to learn the right skills.
Think of it this way: you were raised (by parents who I’m sure did the best THEY knew how) to eat and shop a certain way. From the time you were young, you’ve been taken in and out of grocery stores and fed various types of food. It took you years to learn to eat the way you do now. It will take some similar effort to UNlearn those habits and teach yourself NEW ways to shop, eat and cook.
One step at a time. We will do this together.

#3 Sugary Foods
Sugary foods put you in fat storage mode instead of fat burning mood. Extra sugar gets turned into fat. Don’t get me wrong, we need the right kinds of sugar in order to have energy and survive. You can get all the sugar you need from fresh fruits and vegetables and I encourage you to overflow your shopping cart with them!
I am talking about all the OTHER foods that contain sugar to make them super sweet and to keep you coming back for more. Flavored drinks, sodas, popsicles, cereals, breads, dressings, sauces, crackers, fruit snacks, candies, chocolates, etc. With practice, you can learn to avoid these.
Try eating more things like raw nuts and seeds, sliced veggies with hummus, apple and carrot slices with almond butter, homemade smoothies and green juices, raw cacao, fruit, melons, avocados, etc. Foods like this will help you kick sugar cravings, feel lighter, healthier and ready to hit the beach!
#4 Processed Grains
Grains and gluten can be highly inflammatory to the digestive tract. They contain anti-nutrients called lectins, enzyme inhibitors and phytates, which can irritate the lining of the intestines, inhibit the breakdown of food, decrease absorption of vitamins and minerals and even cause problems like leaky gut, SIBO and celiac disease. Almost everyone is on the gluten-sensitive spectrum somewhere. Most people who cut out gluten and replace it with the right foods experience nothing but positive results: less bloating, better digestion, clearer skin and for some, even weight loss.
A lot of the bread and grain products on the market are full of insane amounts of ingredients. Seriously, how many ingredients could you possibly need to make a good loaf of bread?! Unfortunately, many companies cut corners or use chemicals and unnecessary additives and preservatives in their breads and pastas to make them softer, last longer, taste better and make them cheaper to make it large quantities.
#5 Artificial Ingredients
The very name of these ingredients should give to a clue to the kind of nutrition they give your body: artificial. You might as well be eating the plastic food in your kid’s play kitchen. Your body CANNOT process these and labels them as toxins. Artificial ingredients also tend to be very acidic to the body.
What would you do if something acidic was spilled on your skin? You’d wash it off with water. The inside of your body will do the same thing with acidic toxins: it will surround them in water and store them somewhere like your lymph nodes to keep them away from the rest of your body.
This leaves you heavy with water weight that won’t come off no matter how much you run on the treadmill.
Avoid any foods that have artificial ingredients. Choose instead things that are fresh, locally grown and don’t need an ingredient list because it is obvious what they are made of!
Instead, try coconut oil. Coconut oil will help you curb cravings (healthy fats do that!), lose weight and feel energized. It also contains antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties along with many powerful nutrients. Coconut oil is also one of the ONLY cooking oils that can be cooked to high temperatures without going rancid or losing its nutritional value.
Why are we addicted to these foods?
There is one neurochemical that’s wreaking havoc in your mind and you don’t even know it. The fast food industry is leveraging this chemical and make their food a certain way to make you addicted to it.
The chemical is…
A rush of dopamine in the brain is so powerful and SO addictive. It’s why people skydive and jump off bridges and ride crazy roller coasters… and eat bad foods!
What causes dopamine spike in the brain?
Sugar alone isn’t the enemy. Fat alone isn’t the enemy
But when you COMBINEthe two you experience a dopamine rush that rivals even illegal drugs like cocaine and begin to crave whatever food had that combination again and again and again.
There ARE healthier options and it IS possible to kick the cravings!
Start to cut back on these foods. If you are eating this stuff every day try to only eat it once a week. Once a month. Once a year. Slowly but surely you will begin to feel better and your desire for these foods will get smaller and smaller until you can drive right by your favorite fast-food joint or cruise by your use-to-be-favorite snack at the grocery store and not even give it a second thought.
You will develop more self confidence, more self worth and more self discipline.
#7 Workout Routine
A lot of people are stuck in a routine of chronic cardio. This means going to the gym and spending endless hours on a treadmill or bike without seeing the results you think you should. Doing this puts your body in a state of elevated cortisol, the stress fat-storing hormone that you want to avoid. It has also been shown to not be nearly as effective at helping you lose weight as interval training and weightlifting.
Don’t let me stop you from your daily walks and runs! Done properly and teamed with other types of training, cardio is a fantastic tool to keep your body in shape and feeling good about life. If running makes you happy, that is a VERY GOOD THING. I am talking to the people who sweat away grudgingly on a treadmill because they are so determined to lose weight but are miserable the whole time. Read books, find a trainer or sign up for our coaching program to learn better ways to work out and get wonderful results!
There are endless amounts of things that can cause you stress. It may be:
fast paced environments
a job you don’t like
… the list goes on…
Our bodies, when put in a stressful situation go into fight-or-flight mode. Cortisol is released, our blood pressure rises, blood flow moves more to the outer extremities and away from our internal organs and digestive system. For short periods of time this is just fine and helps us to survive. However, our modern life has become so much about go-go-go that we are living in a constant state of stress. Unless we make changes in our life style, learn to slow down once in a while, stop working at jobs we hate, stop spending time with people who stress us out, spend time every day in meditation and learn to fill our body with better fuel, this constant stress will slowly undermine all of our best intentions to live a healthy life.
Find the things in your life that are causing you the most stress. What can you do to slow down and lower your stress levels? It may take some sacrifice. If you have kids running constantly underfoot, maybe putting a little money aside for babysitters and taking some time to yourself every week would be worth it. Your family deserves your best self and you can’t be your best self when you are constantly stressed.
Remember, you must give 100% to yourself before you can truly give 100% to anyone else.
It is impossible to remove stress from our life entirely. In the cases where a situation simply can’t be changed, learn to turn upward for strength and energy. Find the small things in life that make you happy and help you breath. Make time for these things every day.
#9 Lack of Sleep
Most of us are sleep deprived, running on empty and using caffeine to keep us going throughout the day. If this sounds like you, don’t worry. You’re not alone. In the U.S., it’s estimated that 40% of us are not getting adequate sleep. That’s insane! I was once part of that equation, so I can relate completely. Now, I get between 8-10 hours a night.
Before I discovered how to fuel my body properly, I was like many of you, grabbing a coffee mid-day for energy and staying up late to get everything done. My sleep was off and so was my body, something I didn’t realize until I decided to upgrade my diet and lifestyle and focus on fueling my body with the right things. Because I now fuel my body with real, whole foods and plenty of nutrient-dense, plant-based green juice, I no longer struggle with those mid-day dips and cravings. My energy is through the roof and I feel better than I have in my entire life.
‘We know from experimental studies that just four hours of sleep loss will produce as much impairment as a six pack (of beer),’ said Christopher Drake, an associate scientist at the Henry Ford Hospital Sleep Disorders and Research Center in Detroit.
‘If you have a whole night of sleep loss, that’s equivalent to having a blood alcohol content of 0.19,’ said Drake, who was not involved in the study. To put that in perspective, a blood alcohol level of 0.08% is considered legally drunk in most U.S. states.
Poor quality sleep has been linked to chronic inflammation, high blood pressure, and increased blood glucose levels in people diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Sleep deprivation also affects our mood, mental clarity and physical health.
While we sleep, our brain is helping to pave new pathways for new information, as well as working to repair our heart and blood vessels. It also plays a role in obesity. This happens because sleep helps us to maintain the hormones that make us feel hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). When you’re sleep deprived, ghrelin goes up and leptin goes down. And the vicious cycle begins. Boom!
Insulin is the hormone that affects our blood glucose (sugar) levels. Sleep deprivation has shown to negatively impact insulin levels, causing higher than normal blood sugar, making you more susceptible to diabetes.
And sleep also affects our immunity. Lack of adequate sleep can make it more difficult for our immune system to fight infections, so our risk for illness goes up.
So yes, sleep is super important!
Aim for 7-9 hours each night and if possible, try to be in bed by 10pm and wake without an alarm. The goal is to reset your body’s natural circadian rhythm and get you back on track.
So you can see, my friend… there are things you can do RIGHT NOW to change the outcome and improve your results.
If you are going to do big things in this world (and I know that you are), then we need to start powering you up with enough energy and vitality to do such things. This may seem like a long list of things that are really hard to avoid. I encourage you to pick ONE thing from this list and work to eliminate it from your life. Once you’ve successfully done so, move on to the next one.
LASTING change is way more important than INSTANT results.
Not all the change will be easy but I PROMISE it willbe worth it.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
