Monoethanolamine and Butyl cellosolve. You may be asking what the heck those ingredients are? Put simply, they are highly toxic cleaning agents that are found in most household cleaning products.

Want to keep those toxic chemicals out of your house? Well, there are plenty of natural ways to clean your home and they all can be found in your pantry.

Here are 9 ways to clean your home and upgrade your toxic cleaning supplies:

1. Scrubbing Tile Cleaner Take some baking soda and put it into a grated cheese container (the kind you find at a pizza parlor) and sprinkle it on the bathroom sinks, tubs and showers before scrubbing. Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to it to strengthen the cleaning power and – as a bonus – it will smell wonderful. For those tough stains, simply make a paste of baking soda by adding a little water. Smear it on the tough stain, let it sit for an hour and then wash it off with warm water.

2. Laundry Bleach – Instead of using harmful bleach, try adding ½ cup of borax/1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide to whites, or use 1 cup of white vinegar to darks to prevent fading.

3. Fabric Softener 1 cup of baking soda for clothes. For towels, add ½ cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. The vinegar will deodorize and soften the towels. Add a few drops of lavender or lemon essential oils to add an uplifting aroma.

4. Toilet Bowl Cleaner – Pour an entire container of vinegar into the toilet bowl at night and scrub away the grime in the morning.

5. Kitchen Cleaner Fill an 8oz glass spray bottle with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Simply spray on countertops and appliances to disinfect. You can always add essential oil to freshen the scent.

6. Drain Cleaner Pour ½ cup of baking soda into the drain, add a few drops of lemon essential oil or use freshly squeezed lemon juice, then slowly add ½ cup of vinegar. Let the mixture sit in the drain for 20 minutes and then flush with hot water.

7. Scouring Pad Stainless steel pots and pans not looking so shiny? Take a little bit of baking soda and water and make a paste. Scrub the pots and pans with the paste mixture and they will look all shiny and brand new.

8. Glass Cleaner Take equal parts water and vinegar to make windows all shiny and clean. You can also use this on all of the mirrors in the house. Simple and cheap.

9. Oven Cleaner Take a heatproof deep pan and fill with water. Place it on the oven rack and warm it until the steam softens the baked-on grease and grime. After the oven cools, use a paste of equal parts salt, baking soda and vinegar. Add a few drops lemon essential oil or one whole lemon juiced. Scrub away until clean.

So, the next time you have to clean, you don’t have to wear any goggles or worry about toxic fumes making you sick.

Cleaning in the home can be safe and toxic-free. Do you know any cool natural cleaning tips? Feel free to share them with us in the comments below!lleader_34 (1)

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
