Summer is over and Fall is here! That means it’s time for delicious fruit-filled desserts, canning the leftover ripe produce and prepping the fireplace (at least in Utah).

Soft peaches are one of those sweet, irresistible fruits that everyone loves! I personally like to think of them as nature’s candy; not only do they taste amazing, but they are also packed with incredible health benefits!

Here are 8 benefits peaches have in store for you – eat up!

1. Healthy Eyes

Peaches are full of beta-carotene and vitamin A, both of which are vital to maintaining good eyesight and overall eye health. The antioxidant properties in these nutrients shield the retina from damage and may prevent conditions such as macular degeneration.  

2. Glowing Skin

Peaches are a rich source of vitamin C. Researchers call this vitamin “a vital molecule to skin health.” Not only do peaches help promote glowing skin when you eat them, but you can also use peaches on the outside of your skin to help with wrinkles, dark circles and blemishes. Some people claim that eating foods rich in vitamin C can even delay signs of aging.

3. Immune-System Booster

Vitamin C plays an important role in your immune system by scavenging for free radicals that, if left unchecked, can cause disease and premature aging. It is also important for keeping hormones balanced.

Studies have shown that vitamin C may reduce the duration of illness and improve the overall function of the immune system. Peaches are an excellent source of vitamin C along with several other immune-boosting nutrients!

4. Weight Loss Aid

Thinking of avoiding fruit while you’re on your weight-loss diet? Think again.

Reaching for some peaches instead of the ice cream or chips when you’re experiencing cravings can be a great way to slim down and provide your body with helpful, detoxifying nutrients. Plus, peaches may help to satisfy your sweet tooth (not all sweet things are bad). Peaches contain only 60 calories per fruit.

Studies have found that the polyphenols in peaches may be able to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells.

According to WebMD, foods that are rich in fiber help to protect your heart. Peaches contain around 3 grams of fiber per serving. Daily fiber intake has been linked to lowered cholesterol, reduced risk of stroke and reduced risk of diabetes. Fiber also helps with weight maintenance, which is vital to keeping your heart beating strong.

7. Good Digestion

Fruit is easy for the body to digest and may help to speed up a slow system. Peaches, full of fiber and lots of water, are particularly helpful in flushing out the digestive tract. Getting enough fruit daily may help to relieve gas, bloating, cramping and intestinal pain.

8. Anti-Inflammatory

Inflammation is the root cause of a host of illnesses. Filling up your diet with a lot of anti-inflammatory foods (such as peaches!) may drastically reduce your risk of developing long-term problems due to inflammation.

The more I write about the benefits of whole foods, the more I realize that a healthy diet should be FILLED with them. With the internet providing you with so much information, it can be hard to narrow down exactly what you should eat, especially if you want to live a life free of illness and disease. However, I myself think it is fairly simple.

Stick to foods that are REAL and come straight from mother nature. These foods are packed with medicinal properties that have the potential to protect you from most of the health downfalls that plague modern society.

Avoid foods that are processed and come from a box or an unknown source. These cause inflammation in the body and are usually a heavy contributor to illness, obesity and chronic health issues.

Mother nature has your back! She has been providing you with the foods and nutrients your body needs for years – you just have to dive right in and find out what foods work best for you!
