Natural Ways To Remove Skin Tags

As your largest organ, your skin plays a vital role in regulating your body temperature, detecting hot and cold and protecting your internal organs, bones and muscles. Not to mention, it’s your body’s first line of defense in keeping out infection and disease.

Your skin certainly has one heck of a job when it comes to your overall wellness!

It’s always important to love the skin you’re in… even when it comes to its imperfections (ahem – we are talking about you skin tags).

What Are Skin Tags?

These harmless fleshy “tags” are very small in size, appear deformed in shape. They are the single most common bump on adult skin. Skin tags usually occur on the eyelids, neck, arms, lower part of the breast and armpits and can occur both on men and women.

Skin tags are harmless, but people usually remove them for aesthetic or cosmetic reasons. Unfortunately, removal can be painful as burning or freezing the skin tag off is usually one of the methods to remove them. However, there are several less-painful ways to remove them.

What Causes Skin Tags?

Skin tags are caused due to the accumulation of blood vessels and collagen in the thicker parts of the skin. Scientifically, skin tags are known as acrochordon.

8 Easy Ways To Remove Skin Tags Without Seeing A Doctor

Instead of rushing to the doctor, skin tags can often be easily removed at home with some simple home remedies:

index41. Apple Cider Vinegar

This is one of the best home remedies for skin tags on the neck. Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply it over the skin tag. Use this remedy for about a month for complete removal of skin tag.

index232. Castor Oil

Mix a little castor oil with baking powder to form a paste (it will be very sticky). Apply to the skin tag. Keep repeating the process for two to four weeks and you should notice the skin tag disappearing slowly.

index53. Pineapple Juice

This is one of the simplest ways to remove skin tags on skin. Apply pineapple juice every day at least 2-3 times, but don’t rinse it off. Repeat it for at least 10 days, until the skin tag is completely scraped off. Pineapple juice is also known to work on moles and warts.

index24. Duct Tape

Stick a piece of duct tape to the skin tag for a continuous period of 10-12 days until the skin tag is completely removed.

images35. Onion Juice

Cut an onion and place it in a bowl with salt overnight. The next morning, extract the juice from it. Apply this juice every night on the skin tag for at least 10-12 days.

index16. Banana Peel

Cut a small piece of banana peel and place the inside part of it over the skin tag. Cover it firmly with gauze and leave it overnight. Repeat this remedy daily until the skin tag falls off.

7. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of the best natural methods for skin tag removal at home. Soak a cotton ball in water and then put 2-3 drops of tea tree oil on it. Lightly rub it over the skin tag in circular motions. Repeat twice daily for about a week until the skin tag completely vanishes.

images138. Nail Polish

Nail polish is also a good way for removing skin tags at home. Apply nail polish over the area. Let it set and dry, then remove it. Repeat the process 3 times a day for a few days until you see visible results.

By using one or more of these natural remedies you can safely remove skin tags in the comfort of your own home.

Note: Never try to remove them by surgical means or by castration at home. This may cause infection and make everything worse.

Other Natural Remedies for Common Skin Problems

Warts

Warts are noncancerous skin growths that are caused by a virus called the human papillomavirus (HPV). Warts can grow on many areas of the body, including the hands, genitals and inside of your mouth. Warts – even those on the hands – are contagious; it is even possible to get warts from using the same towels as someone who has them.

Although most of the time warts disappear on their own, they may take months or even years to go away. Some warts won’t go away on their own, which can make common interactions such as handshakes embarrassing and uncomfortable. They are normally treated with salicylic acid or freezing, two methods that most consider painful. Luckily, natural wart-removal remedies do exist.

Give one of these a try next time warts become a problem for you or someone you know:

1. Garlic

Components of garlic (allium sativum) have shown to have antiviral activity. A study published in the journal Planta Medica found that garlic helps to stop HPV infected skin cells from growing into warts. Another trial published in International Journal of Dermatology found that the application of garlic extract can completely remove warts and stop them from coming back for 3-4 months.

What To Do:

Rub fresh crushed garlic on the wart every night and place a bandaid or bandage over it. You can also apply garlic juice to the wart twice a day if desired.

2. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil (melaleuca alternifolia) has been used as an effective topical application for the treatment of skin infections due to bacterial infections. In the journal Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, researchers were successfully able to treat hand warts with tea tree oil. Another study found that there was no difference between salicylic acid and tea tree oil when used on warts and subjects also found that the tea tree oil was significantly less painful.

What To Do:

Apply tea tree oil to the wart and cover with a band aid all day. Remove the band aid and re-apply the tea tree oil and redress with a fresh band aid. Do this until the wart falls off.

3. Banana

According to an article published in the Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry, those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, using banana will do the trick!

What To Do:

Take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side facing out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape.

Blackheads

Blackheads are small, dark spots on the skin that are caused by a small blockage in the opening of a pore. They are typically caused by an overproduction of oil caused by a spike in DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone that triggers the oil glands to overproduce oil, which clogs the pores.

Try one of these if you or anyone you know has trouble with them:

1. Steaming

Steam can be applied to an area of skin for a period that is long enough to open pores, melt any wax-like substances within the pores and otherwise cause the skin to be cleaned. An article in the American Journal of Nursing also shows that steaming is an easy blackhead removal method.

What To Do:

Pull back your hair and wash your face to remove any surface dirt. Boil water on a stove and place your face over the pot. Cover your head with a towel to allow the steam to get trapped in the area of your face for about 10 to 15 minutes. Afterwards, wash your face well and rinse it with warm water a few times. Use a small cotton ball with apple cider vinegar or witch hazel to remove any excess debris.

2. Sugar, Olive Oil And Honey

Research published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology showed that using a combination of sugar and honey on the face can be used as an effective exfoliator. Honey provides numerous benefits for the complexion, including antibiotics that help control acne-causing bacteria, natural humectants that keep the skin smooth and moist and vitamin B that can help soothe dry, irritated skin. When combined with sugar and a small amount of oil, honey makes an effective facial scrub.

What To Do:

Combine equal parts brown sugar and honey in a small bowl. If wanting to make enough for just one scrub, use 1 tablespoon of each. Add about a teaspoon of olive oil and stir to make a smooth paste using a whisk. Wash your face first and then pat dry with a towel. Put the scrub on your fingers and massage into the skin using circular motions.

Make sure to avoid the skin under the eyes as it is too sensitive for the scrub. Although a honey and sugar facial scrub is safe to use every day, limit scrubs to two or three times per week if your skin is dry or sensitive.
