8 “Healthy” Things I’m Not Going to Do Anymore

“Healthy” can be thrown on just about anything these days and convince people to believe in it. Along with “natural,” “sugar-free,” “fat-free” – these are the biggest marketing words to get people to buy what companies are selling.
Here are my top 8 “healthy” things I’m not going to do anymore:
1. I’m done thinking that “natural” means from the ground. Natural can be thrown on just about any packaging because it doesn’t have any regulations, so be sure to read the label and find out what’s actually in what you’re buying. Natural flavoring is one of my least favorite things on the ingredient list because who knows what it is? If you don’t recognize it, your body won’t either!
2. I’m done with fat-free anything. Why? They take the fat out and fill it with sugar, which, by the way, is not a macronutrient, fat is. If you haven’t seen the documentary Fed Up about sugar and what it can do for you, take an hour to check it out (I believe it’s on Netflix).
3. I’m done with sugar free. Again, not true. 9 times out of 10, anything that says on the packaging that it’s “sugar-free” has artificial sugar in it – which is worse for you than regular sugar.
4. I’m done with diets. You heard me. I’m not going to promote them, or follow them, or believe in them. Vegan, Paleo, Grapefruit – none of them are healthy for every individual body. Every single person on this earth is made uniquely beautiful and we all have different needs when it comes to nutrition and guess who the only person is that can figure that out for you? YOU. A health coach, like myself, can help you by asking the right questions, but you have to be the one paying attention to how you feel when you eat things and taking control of your choices.
5. I’m done with limiting anything. This goes back to trusting my body. Feeding myself the right foods is crucial to my health, so, if I’m craving extra fruit, I’m going to eat more fruit. If my body needs an extra 2 hours of sleep and I have nothing scheduled and the baby is sleeping, I’m going to sleep. My health is that important. More important than laundry and dishes, that’s for sure.
6. I’m done with excuses. There isn’t enough time. I’m too busy. The baby is sick. Wah wah wah. We all have something every single day that can get in the way. Every day. If you decide that you want something, commit to it and don’t let anything get in your way. Be a problem solver. Find solutions for your excuses and break down that terror barrier that you can’t do something and just do it.
7. I’m done comparing myself to others and my 18 year old body. Life happens. Choices were made. Babies were born. I’m living in the now. I don’t have to be perfect, but healthy is the goal. Strong and healthy. If my abs aren’t popping in the mean time, that’s okay, I can work on that when I’m not toting around a toddler everywhere I go, if that’s what I decide I want.
8. I’m done with workouts. Really? I want to be strong, but I’m not going to workout? Wrong. I’m just done feeling like I have to workout every damn day. I want to be stronger, but I can go outside and lift rocks or flower pots for hours and that’s going to make me stronger. I can play sports. Activity is important and I’d like to do something active each day, but workouts? I’m done feeling the pressure to have to get to the gym daily.
I hope that these things are things that you can take and apply to your life. I try to see the positive in life, bring balance to areas that need it, but sometimes, you have to know when enough is enough. Stressing yourself out isn’t healthy. In fact, it’s probably one of the worst things you can do to yourself health wise, so if you need to take a second and give yourself a break now and again, do it. Thank me later. 🙂
