8 Anti-cancer Juice and Smoothie Recipes
8 Anti-cancer Juice and Smoothie Recipes
1. Cruciferous Vegetables
Cruciferous vegetables include vegetables like arugula, collard greens, turnips, watercress, broccoli, cabbage, kale, and cauliflower to name a few. Cruciferous vegetables are great anti-cancer foods because they are high in nutrients that neutralize free radicals. They also contain nutrients like carotenoids, vitamins and important minerals.
More importantly cruciferous vegetables contain glucosinolates. ~Glucosinolate compounds contain sulfur-containing chemicals that boost Phase II detoxification enzymes to promote antioxidant activity and reduce risks associated with developing different cancers. Glucosinolates are broken down to indoles, thiocyanates, isothiocyanates and nitriles during chewing and metabolism of these foods.
Research has shown that these compounds inhibit cancers of the bladder, colon, liver, breast and lungs.
According to cancer.gov, these compounds also have benefits including:
- Protection from DNA damage
- Protection from carcinogens
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Antiviral and antibacterial properties
Researchers from the University of Illinois found that compounds found in celery and artichokes destroy pancreatic cancer cells. These compounds are called apigenin and luteolin and are also founds in the oregano herb. These two compounds destroy pancreatic cancer cells by inhibiting enzymes that promote replication of theses cancer cells. Also they increase apoptosis of pancreatic cancer cells – which means that the cancer cells become self-destructive and are destroyed.
Other benefits of artichokes include:
- Boosts liver function and digestion
- Antioxidant power
- Reduces cholesterol
- Rich in abundant vitamins and minerals
- Lowers blood pressure
- High in protein
3. Dark Leafy Greens
Dark leafy greens are amazing for you. Dark leafy vegetables are packed with phytonutrients, chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Health benefits include:
- Rich sources of minerals (iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium)
- Phytonutrients that neutralize free radicals
- Omega-3 fats
- Vitamins (especially vitamin K)
- Aides in prevention atherosclerosis
- Reduces inflammation
- Aides in prevention of diabetes
Berries are amazing. Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries contain antioxidants that neutralize free radicals. Berries contain a phytonutrient called ellagic acid that is responsible for the prevention of different types of cancer. According to the American Institute for Cancer Research berries contain vitamin C, fiber, ellagic acid, vitamin A, folate and flavonoids, which help prevent cancer and slow the development of cancer.
Blueberries are especially powerful. They contain anthocyanosides and resveratrol. Anthocyanin is the major antioxidant in blueberries and it also gives blueberries their blue pigment. Resveratrol is also found in grapes and cranberries. It has anti-fungal properties as well.
Tomatoes contain an antioxidant called lycopene. According to different research studies, people who eat a lot of tomatoes have a decreased risk of developing certain cancers like stomach, prostate and lung cancer. Lycopene also helps decrease risks of heart disease, macular degenerative disease, and lowers inflammation throughout the body.
Other foods that are rich in lycopene include: guava, watermelon, papaya, pink grapefruit and apricots.
Beets are amazing. They are packed with antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals. Beets also have amazing detoxification properties and are beneficial for increasing athletic performance. Beets can increase oxygen within the blood and helps eliminate waste products.
They have antitumor effects and contain a high iron content that helps regenerate red blood cells and help supply cancer cells with more oxygen. Cancer cells are deprived of oxygen so this in turn helps destroy them. Betazyane is a flavonoid that is found in beets and helps increase oxygen intake of cells.
Beet juice is amazing. It helps prevent different diseases and can also reverse diseases as well. Beets contain betaine that helps detox the liver and kidneys. Basically, if you can’t tell already, beets are just awesome!
Lemons are packed with vitamin C that can reduce risks of developing cancer and also decrease inflammation throughout the body. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps eliminate free radicals and also enhances the immune system. Vitamin C has been shown to prevent tumors from developing. Alternative therapies already use high dose vitamin C to treat different cancers. Lemon extract has been shown to destroy malignant cells of breast, colon and lung cancer while leaving healthy cells unharmed.
The peel of the lemon is also important and has many health benefits which include:
- Antibacterial benefits
- Antiviral benefits
- Aids in digestion
- Regulates blood pressure
- Eradicates toxins from the body
Ginger can kill cancerous cells in two ways. The two ways that ginger kills cancerous cells is first by apoptosis and second by autophagy. Apoptosis is where the cancerous cell “commits suicide” and destroys itself and autophagy occurs when the cancerous cells eat themselves and ultimately are destroyed.
Ginger has been shown to help fight ovarian cancer. Researchers from the University of Michigan found that ginger caused ovarian cancer cells to die. Researchers used ginger powder and applied it to ovarian cancer cell cultures and results proved that ginger increased cell death of cancerous cells.
Ginger, like garlic, is used to treat many conditions. Ginger is used to promote the release of intestinal gas, due to its carminative compound.
Ginger helps with seasickness, dizziness, cold sweating, inhibitor of inflammatory compounds, antioxidant properties, nausea and vomiting that is usually associated with pregnancy and much more.
