7 Simple Ways To Naturally Detox

While our bodies are naturally equipped to detox on their own, from time to time they get a little overwhelmed and could use a break to rest and reset, which is where cleanses and detox diets come in.

Often times, your body will tell you it needs some help cleansing out the bad stuff through your skin (breakouts and rashes), in your digestive system (tummy troubles, gas, diarrhea or constipation), or with chronic conditions (gout, joint pain, mental fogginess or chronic fatigue).

If you are exhibiting one of these 4 signs, there are some very easy dietary changes you can make that won’t break the bank and won’t leave you consuming special tea all day or feeling constantly hungry.

  • Add in whole grains, fruits and vegetables. There is a long list of benefits that come from increasing your plant intake. Artichokes and broccoli clean out the liver, which will flush toxins out of your whole body. Dark leafy greens, asparagus, nuts (like almonds), beets, ginger, turmeric, garlic and onions all fight inflammation, which is a sign of toxic overload. Kale is great for kidneys. Parsley purifies the blood and improves cardiovascular health. The list is endless!
  • While you are adding in more whole foods, reduce your intake of processed foods. All of the preservatives, artificial flavors and colors do nothing but clog your body up even more. If you are trying to clean things out, fake food is the last thing you need.
  • Starting your day with warm lemon water will kickstart your lymphatic system to really clean everything out. A clean lymphatic system is important because it is the system that traps bacteria and other microbes in the body and transports them out. It is key in a properly functioning immune system.
  • Reduce your intake of inflammatory foods that will challenge your body’s ability to digest food and function properly. Sugar, processed grains like white bread and crackers, fried foods, red meat and alcohol are all inflammatory foods and can lead to systemic inflammation, which is a building block to chronic conditions such as autoimmune disorders and diseases.
  • Consume foods high in antioxidants to flush out free radicals and assist with tissue repair. Berries, nuts, orange vegetables, green tea and beans are all very high in antioxidants.
  • Drink a lot of water. The cleaner and more filtered, the better!
  • Get your exercise in. Regular exercise will also be effective in cleansing the body of toxins, because it assists your lymphatic system in draining all the bad stuff out and causes you to sweat, which will further detox your body.

 

When doing a dietary cleanse, it is important to remember that it is normal to experience stronger than normal cravings, mild headaches, minor changes in bathroom habits and minor rashes as certain toxins leave the body. If you experience any of these for longer than a day or two, or they become severe or begin to worsen as time passes, consult a medical doctor.

Cleaning up your body does not have to be expensive, boring, or difficult. It is as simple as increasing the good stuff. Focusing on what to add in will naturally push the unhealthier foods out of your diet and will provide the opportunity for longer lasting detox effects and create a happier you!
