Organic food. Supplements and vitamins. Personal trainers. Nutritionists. Quality workout clothes. Excellent sneakers.

The list above sounds like the perfect recipe for optimal health! Given you have the resources to pay for these goods and services…

You can have great health, but it comes with a hefty price tag.

We live in a world where it can often feel like we are living to work, instead of the other way around. We spend hours upon hours at the office earning an income that, once it hits our bank accounts, it gets immediately distributed out to our bills upon bills, upon bills. From rent/mortgages to cell phone bills and car payments, our life demands so much money to keep it afloat.

Therefore, when it comes to the topic of being fit and healthy, it almost seems like a luxury item. People who have the time and money are the ones who achieve great health – NOT the average person working a full time job with a family to raise.

Life is expensive, leaving little money to be healthy.

Here are the 7 reasons why you will NEVER have enough money to be healthy:

1. Because you deserve to treat yourself.

We work so hard! Therefore, our hard earned money should be used to reward ourselves with the latest iPhone, new designer bag, or a fancy dinner.

2. Because tomorrow there will always be a BETTER and NEW program promising fast results.

We can find hundreds upon thousands of options. We try option 1, 2, 3… and when they don’t work, we search for option 4. Next thing we know, we are purchasing option 196.

3. Because SOMETHING will pop up requiring payment (i.e. flat tire or broken phone).

Just when you are getting ahead financially – BAM! Something happens requiring you to shell out some dough, leaving you feeling like you’ll never get ahead.

4. Because you need a new _______ –  fill in the blank (Car? Couch? Haircut?)

Life happens. And life requires money to make things happen.

5. Because you need a raise.

So you can finally afford the personal trainer who will get you healthy.

6. Because you are paying off debt.

Leaving you no extra money to spend on quality food or a gym membership.

7. Because it’s just WAY TOO EXPENSIVE to be healthy – RIGHT?

Or is it?

I hate to break it to you, but the truth is that being healthy doesn’t require much money at all!

If you WANT to be healthy, you can. Plain and simple. The choice is yours and the little decisions you make each day lay the foundation to living a healthy life – or not.

The title of this article shouldn’t be 7 Reasons… a more accurate title is 7 Excuses. To overcome your excuses, it is time for you to take responsibility for your health and OWN it! You control what you put into your mouths each and every day. You control whether you exercise or lay in bed an extra hour. You control if you nourish your mind with positive information or watch crappy television shows.

Your health is UP TO YOU. Not the personal trainer. Not the new and improved supplement that guarantees results. Yeah, those things are nice and could enhance your health – but by no means are they necessary.

What IS necessary is to educate yourself on proper nutrition and exercise and create your own one-of-a-kind Health Plan.

We are so blessed to be living in the information age where finding an answer to a health question is as simple as typing it into Google.

To get you started, here are some simple, easy and inexpensive ways to be HEALTHY:

  • Drink water – Really. Drink water. PLEASE! Aim for at least ½ your bodyweight in ounces daily.
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables – Every. Single. Day. And add a variety because each color provides a different set of benefits!
  • Exercise (walk, stretch, lift weights) – no gym required. Use your body, that’s enough!
  • Sleep – You should wake up feeling refreshed. If not – sleep more or look at other possible culprits, like diet and gut health.
  • Laugh – Engage with people and in activities that bring you massive joy.
  • Love – Feel it. Embrace it. Express it. Share it. Love is amazingly fulfilling!
  • Breathe – Take deep breaths. Be aware of the air filling your lungs and aware of how it leaves your lungs.
  • Think – Take time to create and learn. Use your brain!
  • Educate – Fill your mind with inspiring, motivational and happy thoughts.

You’ve heard it all before, right?

It’s not rocket science. The reason we hear it so much is because it is TRUE. The answer to our health has been in our ears for years. But because life is so busy, it is easy to often choose to believe that there is “a better and faster way” – leading us to feel that we need a product, service, program etc… in order to be healthy.

I previously believed that “something was out there” that would help me get super healthy. I’ve struggled with digestion (IBS), hormonal imbalances, skin issues and fatigue for YEARS. It all set me on a path to find the solution. I wasn’t in search of a magic pill per say, but I was interested in finding a natural solution to make me feel better. I went on a massive quest to educate myself and, over time, I have come to realize that the solution is right between my ears. I know what I have to do. I understand the basics.

Being healthy is more about your psychology and what you are thinking about your health. I may not be at my best every day, BUT I’m perfectly aware of what being healthy means to me!

It is YOUR personal mission to master what your definition of HEALTHY is and to go on a quest to educate yourself and find solutions that work for you. Your mindset. Your time. Your budget.

Go and take a good long look in the mirror and appreciate the beautiful, unique and fascinating person staring back at you. That person in the reflection is capable and in control of how HEALTHY he/she is.

Making healthy choices won’t always be easy. From time to time, you may find yourself in difficult situations where eating and exercising are the least of your worries. It’s OKAY if you slip up for a day or two – it is when you do it for a month or a year where you find yourself wondering what happened! Getting back on the wagon can be hard, but it’s possible and you CAN do it!

Draw a line under the past. No amount or thought or effort can change what happened last week. Focus on where you are NOW and what you can do to create your most ideal and healthy future.

And always remember… we are in this together.
