7 Proven Tips To Simplify Your Life This New Year

Written by: Kat Gal

Life can be so busy, overwhelming, stressful and chaotic.

Do you ever wonder how to welcome more space, more peace and more balance into your life? Do you want to reduce stress and invite more joy in 2017?

Here are 7 tips to simplify your life the next year to create more happiness, inspiration and peace.

1. Have A 3-Task Focus

To-do lists can be overwhelming and super long. You are always adding new things. Even if you manage to check off 10, 20, 50 or even 80% of your tasks, you may feel defeated as things are just piling up.

Instead of trying to tackle everything, jumping from one thing to the next, focus on completing just 3 main tasks each day. This will keep you more focused and productive each day. You will also feel much more accomplished for completing your 3 main tasks well, instead of barely dipping your toes into 20 things. Anything more you do is simply a bonus.

2. Buy More Produce

Buying processed foods can be harmful for your health when it’s made of mainly artificial ingredients and processed sugars. Reading labels constantly can be exhausting though. If you buy mostly produce though, you don’t have to worry about reading labels.

If shopping mostly organic seems overwhelming or expensive, the best thing to do is follow the dirty dozen and clean 15 lists for guidance. Never buy anything non-organic from the dirty dozen list, but leave some wiggle room with anything else. If having to cook scares you, picking a few easy go-to dishes can be helpful.

Just think about it, you still have to make your boxed foods and heat up your TV-dinners, you may as well spend time making something from fresh real food that will benefit you a whole lot more.

3. Develop A Rotating 2-Week Meal Plan

Meal planning can save time, save stress and most importantly, save money. But coming up with a new plan each week can be incredibly stressful when you are living an already busy life.

Instead, it’s the best to come up with a 2-week meal plan then just keep rotating it for the next few months. 2 weeks is enough not to get bored, yet saves you a lot of energy not having to come up with new ideas all the time.

4. Stick To One Place For Recipe Ideas

In this day and age, food porn is everywhere. If you are like me, you waste a lot of time looking at delicious meals on Instagram and Pinterest, drooling over those 1-minute cooking videos, reading food blogs and collecting recipe books.

However, delicious recipes on the screen won’t cook themselves and the more dishes you look at, the harder it will be for you to pick something. You end up spending ages browsing and deciding, then you may end up heating up a frozen pizza in the end.

If you pick one (or max. 3) websites or recipe books to work from, you will have a much easier time to decide. Make the commitment that if you save something you will make it within the month. If you reach your limit of saves (30 dinner, 30 lunch and 30 breakfast recipes), stop pinning.

5. Buy Bulk

Buying bulk helps you save time not having to go out buying new things every week and having healthy ingredients at home at all times. Beans, nuts, seeds, dried fruits, spices, dried herbs, granola, oats, flour, honey, superfoods, coconut sugar, coconut oil and other oils can all be bought in bulk.

Buying frozen vegetables and frozen fruits can also help with saving some money. Most of your dried foods can also be ordered online, saving you time and sometimes money. You can buy other things in bulk, such as organic cleaning products, soaps, shampoo and such as well.

6. Cook Once, Eat Twice

Cook more than you will eat in one meal. You can eat your leftover dinner the next day or lunch or even save it for the day-after. You may want to cook even more and freeze some for the next week.

If you make side dishes, especially potatoes, rice, quinoa or gluten-free pasta, you can pair them up with another dish the next day. Eat them with a nice salad one day, beans the other day and tofu on the third. If you have a slow juicer, you can even make your juices ahead of time and keep them in your fridge for a few days.

7. Declutter

This goes for all areas of your life. Go through your fridge and cupboards. Throw away expired foods and while you are at it, toss anything processed and things you don’t like. Go through your closet and bag up everything you don’t like, can’t fit into, never wear and will never intend to wear. Clean up your desk. Throw away old sticky notes and unnecessary clutter.

Move on to your digital life. Clean up your desktop, go through your downloads, delete documents you don’t need anymore, empty your ‘recycle bin,’ reduce your ‘favorites,’ and unsubscribe from emails, blogs, youtube channels and social media sites that you never look at or are not inspiring to you.

Decluttering your life will simplify it. It will leave more room for new and exciting things and will also save you stress and chaos.

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
