7 Beauty Products You Can Replace With Coconut Oil

Open the jar and be whisked away to a tropical paradise! The smell of summertime and the beach is packed into every jar of virgin coconut oil. There is a whole lot of health packed into that jar too.
Coconut oil comes in two forms: Refined and Virgin. And the difference is a big one!
Refined coconut oil has been processed to eliminate the coconut smell and taste. This process removes most of the beneficial properties of the oil.
Virgin coconut oil is pure and contains amazing nutrients that can be used in a variety of ways. Virgin coconut oil naturally contains antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is a good source of healthy fat when used in moderation.
It’s amazing all the things you can replace with coconut oil. If you are looking to go more natural with personal hygiene products, this is the place to start. A quality 30 oz jar of Dr. Bronner’s Virgin Coconut Oil can be found here for about $15.
Healthy and cost-effective, replacing pricey personal hygiene products with coconut oil is a surefire way to revolutionize your hygiene and beauty routine.
Here are 7 beauty products that you can replace with coconut oil.
1. Ditch The Expensive Wrinkle Creams
Dabbing a little coconut oil around your eyes can hydrate the skin and help to plump the fine lines and wrinkles.
2. A Natural Shaving Cream
In liquid form, coconut oil creates a smooth surface for shaving. Its antibacterial and antiviral properties help to reduce razor burn and those annoying little bumps.
3. Whiter Teeth, Healthier Mouth
Coconut oil attracts the bad bacteria that fills your mouth. Making a natural toothpaste helps to break down plaque that causes yellowing and bad breath.
Oil Pulling is a great way to reduce the bad bacteria in your mouth. This may take some getting used to. Start with about a teaspoon of coconut oil and swish it around your mouth for 5 minutes .Work your way up to a tablespoon, aiming for 20 minutes daily.
Coconut Oil Toothpaste Recipe
- ¼ cup coconut oil (in liquid form)
- ¼ cup organic baking soda
- 2-3 drops tea tree oil (antiseptic)
- 2-3 drops lavender oil (antiseptic)
- 2-3 drops peppermint or cinnamon oil (optional for flavor)
- Mix ingredients together until a smooth paste forms. Add extra baking soda if mixture is thin. Pop in the freezer for about 30 minutes to prevent separation.
NOTE: Be careful not to swallow the oil – you don’t want all that bacteria to move into your digestive system! And for the sake of your plumbing, spit the used oil into the trash can or a paper cup to discard. Otherwise, the oil will go back to solid form and clog your pipes!
4. Soft, Healthy Skin
Replace your daily moisturizer with coconut oil. A little goes a long way and your skin can feel soft and smooth. After a few days of hydration, it can start looking healthier too! Add a few drops of essential oils for new scents.
5. Say Goodbye To Harsh Makeup Removers
You know that tight feeling at the end of the day when you take off your makeup? That’s the chemicals in fancy cleansers drying your skin. Replace them with coconut oil to feel hydrated and see a healthy glow.
6. Frizzy Hair
Tame your mane with a dab of coconut oil. Over-washing and heat-styling can damage hair. A little bit of coconut oil can tame the frizzies and add shine to your locks.
7. Treat Your Hair And Scalp To Deep Conditioning
Itchy head? Try a coconut oil treatment to relieve your dry scalp and renew your hair.
Healthy Scalp Treatment:
- Use a handful of coconut oil (more for longer hair) to massage scalp and work gently through hair from root to ends.
- Cover head with a shower cap to keep the heat in.
