6 Teas To Warm You Up Through The Winter

Winter is upon us, which means that you are probably looking for ways to get cozy and warm. If you are here, I know that you are definitely looking for healthy ways to keep warm that also provide you with awesome benefits.
My favorite thing to drink during the cold months – and honestly all throughout the year – is tea.
In America, tea is really nothing but finely-ground bagged gunpowder from Lipton or over-sweetened sludge in plastic bottles found in the soda aisle.
Real tea, however, is diverse and has delicate nuances that offer a myriad of health benefits.
There are so many different teas to choose from. You have herbal teas, black teas, white teas, greens teas and even red teas. Certain brews can help fight off various diseases, boost your metabolism, quell hunger, help reduce waist-widening stress and – best yet – shrink fat cells.
Because I am a loving person and want you to experience the joy I have, I will be sharing with you my favorite teas in a four part series. Here is part 1:
1. Green Tea – Is it any wonder that green tea made the list? Amongst many things, green tea has been found to have great fat-burning properties. These properties are known as EGCG, a group of anti-oxidative compounds that blast adipose tissue by boosting your metabolism, increasing the release of fat from the fat cells – especially in the stomach area – and speeding up the liver’s fat burning capacity.
And bonus – by adding exercise to regular green tea consumption, you can significantly maximize the weight loss benefits.
2. Valerian Tea – It’s no secret that sleep is very important. Not having enough sleep negatively impacts your body’s hunger and appetite-regulating hormone known as ghrelin. Sleep is imperative to help increase fat-burning hormone production, which helps your body lose excess pounds and maintain a healthy weight.
How does valerian tea help with this? Research is showing what tea enthusiasts have known for ages; valerian is an herb – a mild sedative that can improve the quality of sleep. This is an especially good tea if you are coming down with a cold and ache all over and need something to help you sleep and recover faster.
3. Red Tea – This is one of my particularly favorite teas. It is sweet and delicate and offers a powerful flavonoid called aspalathin. Red tea is also known as rooibos tea, which is made from the leaves of the red bush plant grown in South Africa.
This tea has polyphenols and flavonoids that help inhibit the formation of new fat cells by as much as 22% and aid in overall fat metabolism.
4. Mint Tea – So you have been ducking and dodging all the tempting goodies that come with the holidays, but they are everywhere from your family’s home to work and then everywhere in-between. Mint tea is a great remedy to ward off the munchies by naturally suppressing your appetite. It’s a great tea to drink throughout the day, as well as to have for a night-time warming treat.
5. Ginger Tea – How awesome is it that you can drink the healthiest spice on the planet as a tea? We know that, among so many things, ginger fights inflammation, eases stomach pain and relieves bloating.
My favorite way of ingesting ginger is to have it in a chai tea, which is made with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and ginger. One word: YUM!
6. Hibiscus Tea – Like red tea, this tea is sweet and delicate. I drank this tea a lot to help soothe my migraines. Studies show that the flavonoids found in the hibiscus plant can help ease stomach puffiness and pressure. Hibiscus helps your body regulate water and electrolyte balance that can also aid in a flatter stomach.
