Happy New Year! As promised, I am back to share a few more of my favorite teas to help you get through the winter.

For me, tea is much more than just a warming drink. During the winter especially, I have found that I do not drink as much water as I should. Drinking tea is my way of staying hydrated during the cold months.

Without further ado, here is the next set of 6 teas to warm you up through the winter:

1. Lemon Tea

I’m sure that by now you have at least heard of power of lemon. The fact that lemon tea made this list comes as no surprise. The limonene content in the rind of these incredible citrus fruits has been used as a diuretic for ages. This means that lemon tea is not only great for warming you up, but it is also able to help fight bloating and other digestive issues.

2. Black Tea

A study published in the proceedings of National Academy of Sciences found that drinking 20 oz of black tea daily can help the body produce 5 times more interferon – a key compound used in fighting infection. And if that wasn’t enough, this tea can also help improve cardiovascular function. Do you need any more reason to start drinking black tea today?

3. Bilberry Tea

Bilberries are in the same family as blueberries and have been found to help reduce inflammation. This fruit isn’t widely found in the United States, so the best substitute is a cup of bilberry tea and bonus – you don’t even have to add sugar! Just brew up some hot boiled water and the tea and it will feel like you are on a relaxing vacation in Northern Europe.

4. Chamomile And Lavender Tea

I will be honest, during the winter, I tend to feel down and am always on the lookout for ways to help elevate my mood naturally. Chamomile and lavender tea always helps me ward off fatigue and my winter blues by how it can reduce stress and help with insomnia. Stress can lead to increased levels of inflammation that can then lead to weight and blood sugar disorders like obesity and diabetes.

While you are working on chasing away those winter blues by doing things like eating whole foods, lean protein, exercising and having some “you” time, chamomile and lavender tea can not only help warm you from the inside, but can also help soothe you as you pull through the down times.

5. Pu-erh Tea

Pu-erh tea is a fermented Chinese tea that can shrink fat cells. This less-heard-of tea has actually been found to lower triglyceride concentration and belly fat through a Chinese study. Pour yourself a cup and give it a try this season, it is delicious!

6. Matcha

Matcha is all the rage these days, Starbucks even has a drink with this tea. Matcha is derived from the Japanese tencha leaf that is stone ground into a bright-green fine powder and is incredibly good for you. Studies have shown the EGCG content can boost the breakdown of fat and block the formation of fat cells, especially in the belly.

The EGCG found in matcha is 137 times greater than the amount you will find in store-bought green tea. This tea also offers 4-grams of protein.

To prepare this particular tea, you can either prepare the powder as a traditional tea drink just like the zen monks have done since 1191 A.D., simply add it to a latte, iced drink, milkshake or smoothie, or just brew some up yourself.

Here is a recipe to help get you started:

  • Use a bamboo whisk and tea bowl.

  • Sift 1-2 tsp matcha into a cup using a small sifter.

  • Add 2-oz hot water. For best results use water just under a boil.

  • Whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until the tea is frothy.

  • Enjoy your matcha tea straight from the bowl.

Are any of these teas already in your cabinet? Try one or all of them and share your experience in the comments below! Also, be sure to keep an eye out for part 3 of the list of warming teas that are out there waiting to be discovered!

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
