6 Steps To Achieving Any Goal And Solving Any Problem
Written by: Kimmi Sterner
Look around. You are living in an instant-gratification society where everyone wants quick and easy results.
It’s not necessarily that you are not willing to do the work – it’s that you want the work to have extremely clear directions and steps so that you can efficiently reach your goals. Right?
If you develop an unbreakable strategy that you can apply to any goal, problem, or task, then you can approach everything with confidence and efficiency. You can continue to STRIVE for better results, more knowledge and a happier life.
Follow these 6 easy steps when facing any goal or challenge and you will find yourself making it through with all the assurance and confidence you could ever need.
1. Identify your STRENGTHS.
What is it about this goal that instills the most confidence within you? Let’s use the example of building lean muscle. Maybe you feel extremely confident in your knowledge of working your major muscles (chest, back, legs). It is possible that you feel confident that you can wake up at an early hour each morning to fit in your strength training routine?
Whatever your strengths may be, concentrate on them instead of trying to eliminate what you may consider a weakness.
2. Develop and implement simple TECHNIQUES that will inspire you to continue moving forward.
A technique is the chosen execution or performance used to reach a goal. Identify the enabling and inhibiting factors that either set you up for success or hinder your progress.
Using our previous example – if you know you are able to get up early to hit the gym in the morning, then support that strength by laying out your workout clothes and having your gym bag packed and ready to go. If you are aware that sometimes hitting the snooze button can hinder your progress, set your alarm across the room from your bed so you are forced to get up right away.
Begin practicing little techniques that move you closer to your goal and eventually you will have a flawless system that supports success.
3. Create a system used to help you RECOVER to ensure that each setback is turned into an even better comeback.
This step is all about preparation. To make sure your setbacks turn into comebacks, follow the steps below:
- Take a blank sheet of paper and fold it horizontally into three sections. At the top of the paper, write your ultimate goal.
- In the first column, write down everything that could possibly go wrong when working towards your goal. That’s right- expect the worst.
- Now, imagine what your life would look like if it all did go wrong. Write that down in the second column.
- In the third box, write down the steps you would take to come back from each set back. This step shows you that, even if the worst case scenario presents itself, the solutions are possible – and completely doable.
Not only will this exercise reduce the risk of setback, it will also leave you feeling empowered and confident in your ability to handle any trial that may come your way during your journey.
4. Bring INTENSITY to your efforts.
What motivates you? Does knowledge empower you? Maybe competition inspires you to work harder?
Whatever lights a fire under your butt and gets you moving with the utmost enthusiasm, set aside time every single day to participate in that activity.
If it is competition that moves you closer toward your goal of building lean muscle mass, then enter a challenge your gym is hosting or subscribe to a mobile app that helps you compare your progress to that of others and keeps you accountable. Continuously bring fuel to your fire.
5. Perform activities that instill a sense of VITALITY in your efforts and create constant joy in the journey.
Think about when you have your best ideas. These million dollar ideas most likely don’t come to you while you’re sitting in front of a computer screen. If you’re anything like me, then your best ideas come when you’re most relaxed – whether it be during exercise, driving, or even taking a shower.
Set aside time every day for an intentional “brain break” and give yourself one full day a week to completely unplug from the pressure of accomplishing your goal. This will make you appreciate your journey so much more and prevent any kind of fatigue or boredom that could come with working hard.
6. Recognize a support system that gives you the ENDURANCE to cope with the fallbacks and fatigue that come with any process.
I am a firm believer that relationships come first in life. I know that any and all of my accomplishments would not have been possible without the help and support of those around me.
Building a support system helps you have a solid community to turn to during the times when your goal seems too far out of reach or you feel like giving up.
Who inspires and challenges you in a healthy way? Identify those people, tell them about your goal and ask them to serve as a resource for support during your journey.
Well, there you have it! An inspiring, simple strategy that applies to every aspect of your life and ensures success. Develop this flawless philosophy and I guarantee you will feel more empowered, knowledgeable and supported.
