You may not believe it, but your gut is one of your most important organs. Everything depends on and goes back to your gut health from your digestion to your immune system to your mental health. Without a healthy gut, there isn’t a healthy YOU.
But in today’s busy, high-stressed society full of processed food and artificial products, your gut health is likely compromised.
Don’t worry though. There are some easy ways to improve your microbiome and therefore, your gut health.
Here Are 6 Proven Ways To Improve Your Gut Flora
1. Eat Organic Vegetables And Fruits
Commercial vegetables and fruits are covered with chemicals that kill your microbiome. It is not surprising that they also kill the healthy microflora in your digestive tract.
If you go for organic produce, it is not sprayed with pesticides, fungicides or herbicides, therefore, you won’t be eating dangerous chemicals. If you cannot buy all organic, pay attention to the dirty dozen and clean 15 lists.
2. Drink Filtered Water
Tap water is full of chlorine to kill harmful microbes in the water, however, they also kill the healthy ones in your gut. Drinking filtered water is much better because the chlorine has been filtered out. You can also opt for spring or mineral water as well.
3. Eat Probiotics
Eat foods that are high in probiotics, such as fermented foods like kefir, kombucha, kimchi and sauerkraut. Take daily probiotic supplements to ensure a variety of good bacteria in your gut. This way you will create a healthy balance in your gut flora.
4. Stop Using Antibacterial Soaps And Hand Sanitizers
In the modern world, we are told to use anti-bacterial everything to kill off infectious agents. However, when you wash your hands with these products, they remain on your hands and when you touch and eat food, they make it into your gut, killing off your healthy microflora.
Not using an overwhelming amount of antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers can also build strength in your immune system.
5. Avoid Food Additives And Preservatives
Environmental toxins such as food additives, preservatives and artificial colors disrupt your microbiome. They have no place in your digestive tract. It’s best to stay away from processed and artificial foods and to eat as many natural, organic whole foods as possible.
6. Avoid Processed Sugar
Processed sugars may be sweet, but in reality they are just food for the unhealthy bacteria and fungi in your body, leading to overgrowth in your digestive tract and causing all kinds of health issues.
It is much better to opt for natural sweeteners, such as raw honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar and date paste when cooking or baking because they will not disrupt your microflora balance.
Still, don’t overindulge on these natural sweeteners either. If you are craving something sweet, it is the best to opt for whole fruits and sweet vegetables because of their lower GI and high fiber and micronutrient content.
If you follow these 6 proven tips you will be able to keep your gut flora in balance. Remember, a healthy gut means a healthy body.
