5 Reasons Your Kids Want You To Juice
By Theresa Bonner
Juicing is an easy, portable and delicious way to get tons of nutrients into your body – quickly! Just one juice a day that has a blend of mostly vegetables, with a little fruit (optional) really packs a nutritious punch.
And you know who would LOVE it if you made juicing a regular part of your routine? Your kids!
Here are the reasons why…
1. They LOVE being in the kitchen with you.
Have you noticed that no matter what you’re doing, your kids want to do it too? Especially when you’re in the kitchen. Kids love “helping” you cook (at least when they’re young). They can’t wait to climb up on the stepping stool and get their hands on those exciting tools and ingredients. Kids particularly enjoy juicing because they get to clean fruits and veggies, push buttons, use the tamper to push the produce through the feeder chute and watch all of those gorgeous colors flow out the other end. They also love being taste testers. They may not like every flavor combination, but they are much more likely to try the juice if they helped make it themselves.
2. You’re more likely to have enough energy to keep up with them!
Kids are on the go, go, go most of the day. They seem to have boundless energy with all the running, jumping, climbing and dancing they do around the house for hours each day. When they get a bit older, they’re rushing from school to sports practice or club meetings. Whatever their age, they expect you to keep up and match their energy level. Getting your recommended six to eight servings of fruits and veggies a day in juice form gives you a shot of energy that coffee can’t match. With fresh juice, you get all the energy without the jitters and sleepless nights.
3. Life is way better for them when you are clear headed.
Making sure that you get them to the right practice on the right day while calling them by their own name instead of their brother’s is kind of a big deal for kids. They want to know that you are keeping it all straight. In fact, they depend on it. With all of the amazing nutrients that you are absorbing from fresh fruit and vegetable juices, such as iron, vitamin C and beta carotene, your brain will be functioning at top speed. Think of how you feel after a fast food milkshake. Are you jumping up and ready for action, or slouched and ready for a nap? That’s not going to get the job done, not even close. A freshly juiced apple, cucumber and an inch of fresh ginger is way more likely to get you and your kids exactly where you need to go, when you need to be there.
4. There’s no sick days for parents.
Your kids adore you and they want the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you are taking care of yourself. They also want to know that you are going to be able to get dinner to the table without coughing and sneezing in it. Parents work so hard taking care of everyone else around them, but many times forget to take care of themselves. The best way to make sure you’re doing all you can to stay healthy for you and your kids is to eat a clean diet with tons of fresh produce, stay hydrated and get a fair amount of exercise every day. Just one eight-ounce glass of vegetable juice a day can help you make sure you are feeling your best.
5. You are your child’s superhero.
They may not always say it, but they are your biggest fans. You are their first love and they know that you can do anything (at least when they’re young). They expect you to be the best at everything you do and they want you to be able to do it for years to come. Your kids want to walk, talk and dress like you. They may not even know it, but they want to be healthy like you too. They want to grow up to be just like their vital, energetic mom or dad and to one day be superheroes to their own kids. Juicing sets a great example of forming healthy habits.
So, fill your shopping cart with some beautiful fresh produce. When you get home, take your kids into the kitchen. Make a tall glass of green, red or orange juice and share it with your little loves. They’ll be so glad you did.
