Imagine for a moment LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. These men are widely considered titans in the basketball world. They have set and broken records and have become the faces of athletic greatness.
Would they still have been these great names of basketball without their teammates? Or most importantly, their coaches?
Being on both sides of health coaching, I can tell you that a coach can be so vital in helping you navigate, be your eagle’s eye and help you make adjustments to ensure you reach your goal. This is why a health coach is so important. While your doctor looks at the “sciencey” number stuff, your health coach helps you make small achievable steps towards your ultimate health goals.
At the dawn of a new year, you have a clean slate to start or restart your wellness. You may be wondering where to begin. Fitlife Certified Coaches – such as myself – support, guide, educate and advise clients through each phase of their transformation process, addressing each specific need from the dazed and confused newbie to the healthy and focused wellness warrior.
Now the question remains, do you really need a health coach?
In my opinion, I believe we all need coaches; in fact, you have had a set of coaches since the day you were born – your parents. They guided you through your fumbling first steps, words, days of school and the list goes on. As you got older, the job was shared with teachers, sports coaches, siblings, spiritual leaders, Oprah, yoga instructors, ballet teachers, piano teachers, etc.
Is it possible to do it on your own? The easy answer is yes, but I also think that your experience will be richer, more successful and even more profound with a health coach there for every step of the way. Here are 5 reasons why:
1. Your Fitlife Certified Health Coach (CHC) Helps You Customize A Plan For Your EXACT Situation
Let’s face it, you have a life, responsibilities, work, etc. and all that comes with stress and it can be challenging implementing healthier habits. This is where you and your health coach can work together to develop a customized plan that takes your individual physical shape, emotional status and lifestyle factors into account, that ultimately leads to positive, permanent change.
2. Your Fitlife CHC Helps You Make Safer, Better Changes
There are so many questionable diets and fitness fads that hit the market every day. They are shoved into your face by marketing campaigns, magazines and TV promotions and some of them can have negative impacts on your health.
Your Fitlife CHC helps you develop a plan that sustains your body as it heals itself and gets to a healthier place. He or she will help you identify and implement sensible, sustainable practices to enhance your health and identify red flags as needed.
3. Your Fitlife CHC Knows How To Get More Detailed With Your Needs
As I mentioned before, your doctor looks at the numbers and sciencey stuff, but most do not offer much more than the “you need to lose some weight” or “eat more greens” recommendations. Your health coach, however, is prepared to get granular, to pin down and identify the latest, best techniques to help get you the results you and your doctor are looking for.
4. A Great Coach Walks The Walk
At Fitlife, we love what we do and if we are not coaching a client, we are probably hiking somewhere, sharing a ginger shot, or practicing yoga. We don’t just advise, we DO; we are involved, actively hunting wellness information, analyzing nutritional news, testing recipes, sharing tips and trying classes, just to keep expanding our knowledge on a daily basis.
This means that you as a client gets access to personalized information, fresh approaches and answers to keep your health journey interesting, educational and enlightening.
5. Your Fitlife CHC Is Your Supporter And Game-Changer
Changing long-held negative behaviors, beliefs, relationships and attitudes can be daunting and lonely. Your health coach is there to hold your hand, guide and support you on the path and – most importantly – keep you accountable. Think of a health coach as a wellness advisor and consultant to help you change your old habits for new habits.
If you ask me, I would suggest working with a health coach to help you transform your life this year to create your best and healthiest self – by doing so, you will offer yourself a gift that will keep on giving for years to come.
