5 Healthy Ways to Honor Yourself This Season

By Cherie Paschal

Lately, I’ve been feeling as if I want to just curl up in bed, hide under the covers and hibernate. While it’s natural to feel slower and less active this time of year with the days being shorter and sky being darker, there’s inevitably work that needs to be done. Your kids need dinner, your house needs to be cleaned and groceries need to be shopped for. And for some, you also have a full-time job to tend to.

So how do you lovingly honor your feelings of wanting to hide away in a cocoon like a butterfly, while also honoring your responsibilities?

Here are a few ideas that don’t take much time or money, but may help you find peace in the cooler temps.

1. Find a quiet place and meditate. Going inward can create your own little cocoon of quiet and stillness. And meditation doesn’t have to be complicated. Get comfortable; you can meditate sitting or lying down. Focus on your breath; notice the expansion when you breathe in and savor the spaciousness after you exhale. Notice the thoughts flowing through; let them be and really take notice of them, letting them come and go just like your breath. If you haven’t meditated before, start small with just  3 to 5 minutes, then increase your time as you feel comfortable.

2. Steal yourself away for a hot bath. Play soothing music and light a candle. Add some bubbles, a few drops of lavender essential oil for relaxation, and/or epsom salts for a bit of a detoxing effect. Do whatever you feel is most nurturing for you.

3. Eat warm, nourishing food. Stews, soups and bone broth are warming and comforting. Using a crock pot during the cooler Winter months is an easy way to have dinner done for you, with plenty of leftovers to spread throughout the week.

4. Create or find a sacred place – in nature, or in your home. Create a little bubble of peace and tranquility by adding pillows or blankets to your sofa; put up a tapestry, or a piece of art on the wall; add candles to a table. Create beauty and peace in a quiet space where you can feel cozy and sit with a cup of tea or cocoa (preferably a healthier version).

5. Go to sleep early. Sleep has been proven to improve your mood, improve your health, lessen pain, improve your sex life, improve weight control, cause clearer thinking, better memory and stronger immunity. Aim for at least 7-9 hours of uninterrupted, restful sleep each night.

My hope for you: May you find a way to slow down; may you find light in the darkness; may you find a little piece of calm and tranquility. Now is the time to focus on balancing all that you do and show yourself that you matter. You, as much as anyone else, deserve to be nurtured, nourished and loved.

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
