4 Shocking Ways To Lose Weight, Which Have Nothing To Do With Food

We are constantly told what to eat (or not eat!), drink (or not drink!) and how many lunges, squats and push-ups we need to do in order to lose weight. But the reality is this: stress hormones, when out of whack, can block even the best diet regimens and impressive exercise feats.
The best diet and fitness programs are holistic in nature and include lifestyle improvements as well. Here are four ideas to incorporate into your life right now.
1. Spend Time “Earthing”. This may sound a bit odd or ‘out there’ but I actually first heard of this at a mainstream Corporate Wellness/Healthcare Conference in Las Vegas. An executive from LinkedIn explained how they have their engineers go outside and “earth” by standing barefoot on the grass every day to detoxify electromagnetic stress. EMF stress comes from all of the technical equipment, power lines, machines and cell phones we are constantly around. If you can sit outside quietly with your eyes closed for even a few minutes everyday and do some deep breathing, you’ll experience even more physical and psychological benefits. Positive, calming and grateful thoughts increase serotonin levels in the brain, which help you to have less of a “false appetite” and encourage you to stay in balance. If you live somewhere too cold to spend time earthing outside year round, there are also grounding bracelets, earthing sheets, pads and other products. 2. Bless Your Food. Did you know that stress while eating is scientifically proven to increase cortisol levels, which spikes blood sugar levels and then produces excess insulin in the body? Next time you are feeling guilty over eating that cookie, it’s best to just set it down until you can eat it while feeling good about it (yep, I just gave you permission to EAT THAT COOKIE – note, I didn’t say a whole box, or daily). In contrast, if you are joyful while eating, your body produces feel good neurotransmitters, which are linked to weight loss. This quick tip will also help you be mindful whenever eating and energetically charge your food with gratitude. How amazing that you have enough food to eat and what a blessing that someone grew this food and/or prepared it for you! Focus on how incredible it is that your body is going to work so efficiently to turn it into energy for your cells and process it so perfectly for you. This spirit of love, appreciation and mindfulness is huge when it comes to finding homeostasis with food, your weight and creating a loving relationship with your body.
3. Clear Clutter. Clearing clutter on a holistic level is a great way to release excess weight. Although there can be various reasons why someone is carrying excess weight, a common reason is the need for protection (even if subconscious), or a sense of psychological “heaviness” in life. Get crystal clear on how you can lighten up your life, while making sure you feel safe on all levels. You may be surprised at what emotions come up as you go through the process of looking at your baggage – physically, mentally and emotionally. Start with cleaning out a closet in your home, then move to your kitchen, bedroom, office, garage, car and paperwork/finances. Once you have systematically gone through the various areas of your life, next look at your relationships. Is there any emotional clutter you need to address, or are there changes you need to make in the people you are associating with – friends, family, romantic partner, etc? A good question to ask yourself is, “is this person, or thing enhancing my life, or depleting it?”. If it’s life depleting, then it’s time to take a deeper look on how to make some changes in that area.

4. Use Lavender Aroma. Lavender essential oils and herbs bring down cortisol levels and enhance overall well-being. Cortisol is the hormone that can block weight loss and cause stubborn body fat to build up around the core (visceral organs). According to a University of Maryland study, lavender was confirmed to have a “slightly calming, soothing and sedative effect when the scent is inhaled.” You can drink lavender tea throughout the day, or diffuse lavender essential oil to combat stress during the day. At night, it is great for relaxation before bed. Try rubbing some on the back of your neck, or making a spritzer to spray your pillow and sheets. Getting enough high quality sleep is another critical ingredient in the weight loss world.
