Do you occasionally suffer from bad breath?
Did you know that suffering from bad breath can be a sign of something more serious other than just the smell of garlic or onions that you ate for lunch?
When there is something going on that isn’t quite right, your body sends out distress signals. Those signals can be anything from bad breath to snoring or even cravings.
Here’s what you need to know if you notice your that your body is sending you these common distress signals.
Snoring
While this could often be annoying for your partner when they are trying to sleep, snoring can be a sign of something pretty serious. Snoring can be caused when airflow is obstructed such as through your nasal passages. Many people snore more during allergy season or when they are sick. Your nasal passages can also be obstructed by a deviated septum or nasal polyps.
If you snore on a regular basis, there are a few things that you can do to try to help with the noise. Instead of sleeping on your back, try sleeping on your side. When you sleep on your back, your tongue is relaxed and it can block your airway, causing you to snore.
Try attaching a tennis ball to the back of your shirt. When you roll over on your back, it will wake you up and cause you to turn back to your side. You can also try to keep the air in your bedroom moist if you deal with allergies or sinus issues that causes you to snore.
Bad Breath
If eating mints or brushing your teeth constantly doesn’t help resolve your bad breath, something more serious could be going on. If you have good oral hygiene and brush and floss your teeth like you are supposed to, but still suffer from bad breath, it could mean that you are dehydrated.
When you become dehydrated, your mouth is not making enough saliva that can remove bacteria, so the bacteria has room to grow and survive, which can cause bad breath. To fix this, simply start drinking more water, preferably the recommended 8 glasses each day.
Craving Salt
Do you feel like you constantly crave fries or chips? Having a salt craving might be more than just a craving. A craving usually means that your body has a mineral deficiency and is trying to tell you. Craving salt means that your body could need more iron, calcium, or potassium.
If you find yourself craving salt more than usual, try boosting up your intake of minerals by taking a multivitamin or even eating more vegetables that are mineral-dense. Electrolytes can help as well.
Craving Sweets
You might say that you have a sweet tooth, but your body on the other hand could be trying to tell you that you could be lacking magnesium. Having high levels of stress and eating too much sugar can actually reduce your levels of magnesium, leaving you with that chocolate craving.
To increase your magnesium levels, by eating more nuts, seeds and broccoli.
