3 Ways To Naturally Hydrate Your Skin During Your Transformation
By Kavata Kithome
While going through your transformation, you may find that your skin tends to dry out, as your body is working to remove all the toxins from inside you.
It’s important to remember that your skin is your largest organ and its main function is protecting your internal body. It’s unique that you can impact the skin’s health from the inside and outside. We often neglect our skin, because it never fails us, yet it is important to give your skin all the nutrients its needs to build a healthy, strong barrier for your internal body.
It’s also important to remember that healthy skin is hydrated skin, so below are 3 easy and “natural” ways to hydrate your skin from both the inside and the outside.
1. Lubricate With Oils
Scared of oil? Don’t be – oils are one of the best ways to lubricate your skin from the outside in. The best oils are the plant-based oils. You may be a little leery about putting oil on your skin, but your skin can actually absorb the right oil rather quickly.
Oils can help balance oil production of the skin and ultimately hydrate the skin, lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a healthy and – most importantly – youthful complexion everywhere, including the face!
Need more evidence? Let’s take a walk down memory lane to your high school biology lesson about your skin. Your skin cells have an external barrier made of fat and in the great law of attraction, fat attracts fat. This goes to show that your skin loves oil.
Just remember that the best oils are natural plant based – stay away from synthetic petroleum and mineral oil. If you are ever unsure of what oils are best, food grade oils are always the way to go.
Try oils like sweet almond oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, olive oil and my favorite, argan oil.
2. Eat Healthy Fats
As you go through your transformation, you may start finding yourself eating things that you never thought for one moment you ever would. With that said, treat yourself to some healthy fats. They are the pathway to soft, supple and youthful skin.
You know that it’s important to take heart health omega-3 fatty acid to support your cardiovascular functions, but now there is even more incentive to take them, as they do more than just moisturize your skin – they also help reverse the signs of aging – how cool is that?
Some omega-3s have even been shown to preserve collagen and others to reduce inflammation for smooth, healthy, ageless skin.
Add some plant based fats like avocado (goes well with everything, even when in a smoothie), olives and olive oil, coconut oil and flaxseed oil are just a few you can add to your diet today to reap the benefits of healthy fats.
Here are some ideas to help incorporate healthy fats into your diet during your transformation:
- Add ½ an avocado into your smoothie for glowing, silk-smooth skin.
- Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to your lemon water, or juice for luxurious, supple skin.
- Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil on your steamed veggies or a salad, or even your warm soup for skin health benefits.
3. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate… Gently
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and allows your skin to stay breathable. You can exfoliate during your shower with a scrub or before your shower through dry brushing. The key here is to be gentle.
Tips to remember while dry brushing (as the name implies): Use a dry brush that is made of soft natural fibers. Gently make small circular motions with the brush, working from your toes upwards to your shoulders.
If you choose to exfoliate in the shower, use an exfoliating scrub. You can use this amazing brown sugar body scrub:
- 1 cup organic brown sugar
- 1 cup organic cane sugar
- ½ -1 cup sweet almond oil
Mix together in a glass sealable container and voila! A gentle, delicious smelling body scrub!
