A couple of weeks ago, I was stuck in the car for almost 7 hours back and forth in traffic and the next day after the gym, my lower back had me moving slower from pain and discomfort.
The problem in my case was that my hamstrings were too tight from sitting and I didn’t stretch out enough, which caused my back to tighten. Maybe you drive a lot or sit at a desk for work. If you are someone who struggles with low back pain, trust me when I say that I know how it feels so I understand completely.
Did you know… 80% of the population suffers from lower back pain.
Something that I do nearly every day is to stretch – even just 5-10 minutes a day – to help keep my body limber and my muscles loose. I can definitely feel a big difference when I don’t do this, such as the case with my road trip.
3 of my favorite stretches for my hamstrings are:
hip flexor stretch
It feels so good to do these and you’ll be surprised at how flexible you become with regular stretching each day. Combine that with yoga and you’ll be gumby in no time. 🙂
Physical pain can bring up a lot of emotions. You may feel frustrated or upset because you can’t move without wincing in pain, or you’re laid up in bed when you want to be out and about doing something fun. I’ve been there and it’s not a place I want to revisit.
Drew’s 3 Tips To Alleviate Low Back Pain
1. The best thing you can do for yourself is to incorporate daily stretching to help alleviate the tightness in your body. By adding in this healthy habit each day, you can increase your energy up to 70%! That right there makes it worth it!
2. Epsom salt baths are also amazing to ease pain and tension and soothe sore muscles and joints. I take one of these a few times a week and it feels so good. It also helps relax you before bed and helps provide your body with magnesium, a critical mineral that roughly 80% of the population are said to be deficient in.
3. Begin loading your plate with alkalizing foods, like leafy greens, ginger, turmeric and plenty of anti-inflammatory herbs, spices and veggies. My favorite way to do this, of course, is making sure to get in 32 ounces of fresh green juice each day, which reduces inflammation and alleviates pain.
Remove sugary foods, alcohol and excess caffeine too; these are pro-inflammatory and only make things worse.
What are your best tips for lower back pain? I’d love to hear them!
