It’s that time of year… time to kiss the Blarney Stone and drink a few green beers with your coworkers!

I’m sure your inner critic thinks you should stay home, watch the Bachelor and drink green tea – But we all know that ain’t happenin’! So you might as well be proactive and avoid the unbearable hangover!

Any respectable St. Pat’s veteran will tell you to drink water in between your cocktails, eat plenty of REAL food, stick to clear alcohol, etc. But in the event that doesn’t help

Here are 3 tips to help you feel GREAT the next day, despite the celebrations!

1. B Complex Vitamin

One before you go out and one when you wake up. You will lose some vital nutrients, as alcohol is a diuretic. Drinking alcohol dehydrates you and subsequently depletes all your vitamins. B vitamins play a role in many important bodily functions, including helping the body produce energy as well as keeping the digestive system healthy.

2. Activated Charcoal

Take before bed as directed on the bottle. Charcoal absorbs toxins in your system and will help your liver process all the green tequila shots you enjoyed. However, it will absorb other things, such as prescription meds, so don’t take activated charcoal at the same time as your critical meds, such as birth control.

3. Green Smoothie

One of the BEST things you could do for yourself is start the day after St. Pat’s with a hearty combination of alkaline and detoxifying goodness. We all know you will be craving a bag full of Jack-in-the-Box monster tacos.  However, salty, fatty foods will only make things worse for your overtaxed, bloated body. You can make smoothies ahead of time and keep them in the fridge for a couple of days in an airtight container, such as a mason jar.

Bonus:  Dandelion Tea

Dandelion supports liver function and bile production and can help rid your overtaxed liver of toxins – without straining or stressing your system. It contains electrolyte-replenishing potassium and colon cleansing, gut-satiating fiber that help to ease the process. It’s FULL of nutrients.

Drink 1-2 cups of this the day after drinking, or anytime you feel like your liver needs a little assistance.

A Great Smoothie to Try
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 green apple (cored, peeled and sliced)
  • ½ a cucumber
  • 1 stalk of celery
  • 1 fresh beet (peeled and cut into cubes)
  • 1 lemon (peeled and seeds removed)
  • 1 inch of sliced ginger
  • 1-2 cups of filtered water
  • A pinch of sea salt
  1. Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

If the St. Pat’s hangover caught you unprepared, lots of water and nutrient dense foods will get you on the road to recovery. Adding some fresh lemon juice to your water would be ideal and make yourself a hearty veggie omelette that includes some liver lovin’ avocado.
