3 Simple Steps To Create The Perfect Day – Mindset Monday

We start every day hoping it will be a great one. But then at some point, at some time, something goes wrong. Something throws us off our groove.

I’d venture to say that the largest determinant to how your day goes is your MINDSET. Ask yourself this:

Do YOU happen to life? Or do you let LIFE happen to you?

Think about this morning when you woke up. What happened? How did you approach the morning? If something went awry, did you come unraveled or did you move forward with intention?

The other day I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I felt ruffled, busy and rushed. I had a lot on my plate and my head was in the clouds. Once I was out of bed, I began moving through my to-do list, like a robot.

As I was rolling through my day I realized: my heart isn’t here. My mind is elsewhere. What am I doing?

So I stopped thinking about all the things on my to-do list and just focused in on the moment. I sent a message to someone I care about. I did some deep breathing. I looked out the window with gratitude for the beautiful day.

I began moving through each task with intention and with all of my focus.

I chose to have a perfect day.

This simple shift in mindset completely changed the way my day turned out. You and I have the power every day to wake up and decide how we are going to live our life. It’s a decision we make over, and over, and over again. With all that practice, don’t you think we should all be having incredible days every day? I believe we can.

Here are three ways to create a perfect day over, and over and over again.

#1 Control What You Can

There are certain things you can control and certain things you can’t control. Most people waste a whole ton of energy worrying, wondering and trying to control things that they simply CAN’T.

So before you let something dampen your mood or throw off your entire day, ask yourself: is this something I can control or something I can’t?

If you wake up and it’s raining outside, there’s obviously nothing you can do to change that fact that it’s raining. You CAN decide how to react to it. Will you express gratitude for the water and make yourself some hot chocolate? Bring an umbrella and smell the fresh watery air?

If someone says something that offends you, you can’t take back that they said something because you can’t control other people. But you can control how you react.

If you wake up and feel stiff and sore or not 100%, then you CAN control how you take care of your body that day and recommit to a healthier lifestyle.

Learn to recognize the difference between what you CAN control and what you cannot. Focus your energy on the things you have power over. Release the things you can’t!

#2 Control Your Mornings And You Will Win Your Days

Your morning sets the tone for your whole day. It can give you momentum for a productive, positive day or a rushed, groggy and late-to-everything day. When you create a simple, habitual morning routine, you set yourself up for success.

Even something as simple as making the bed starts your day off with an accomplishment and has been shown scientifically to help you be happier!

#3 Concentrate On What Counts

If you’re anything like me, your life is full of people, things to do, places to be and a long to-do list! There is nothing wrong with this UNLESS you are filling up your plate with things that are simply not worth your time.

Being busy is seen as a sign of success in western culture, but it has gotten a lot of people into trouble. Chronic business leads to burnout and often a feeling of dissatisfaction with life.

Make sure that you are spending the bulk of your time on things that matter! Namely… PEOPLE! The relationships that matter to you! Making a difference in the world! Making someone smile! Enjoying the fresh air!

My favorite phrase to remember is: When in doubt, focus out!

Your life will become more meaningful as you only give focus to what MATTERS.

When you look back on your perfect or even not-so-perfect day, I encourage you to reflect with gratitude. Look back for any awesome things that happened, even if they were small. This energy of gratitude will help you relax and wind down instead of falling asleep worrying about everything coming tomorrow.
