Turmeric – my secret love affair of the superfood community!

Who doesn’t love this stuff? I mean really.

In the 10 Day Smoothie Challenge we use this super-root in many of the recipes and here are 10 quick reasons why! I’ll give you some simple smoothie recipes at the end of this blog.

A root that is commonly ground into a powder and used as a spice in Indian cuisine, especially curries. Turmeric has had value for thousands of years in India, both as food and as medicine, and it has recently been proven to contain high amounts of anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants.  Turmeric shows promise in treating and preventing a host of Western diseases, including Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and depression.  It is especially impressive in its tumor-shrinking capabilities.

Anti-Inflammatory Orange Avocado

Ingredients
  • 3 cups coconut water
  • 1 avocado
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder or fresh
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • Fresh orange juice (enough to blend)
Instructions
  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Make sure everything is properly washed/cleaned.
  3. Put every ingredient in the blender.
  4. Add ice, mix well and enjoy!

Gold Star Shake

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 1 inch turmeric
  • ½ inch ginger
  • ½ cup fresh papaya
Instructions
  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Make sure everything is properly washed/cleaned.
  3. Put every ingredient in the blender.
  4. Add ice, mix well and enjoy!

Weight Loss Citrus Blast

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 2 cups frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • ½ inch ginger, peeled
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 cup coconut milk
Instructions
  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Make sure everything is properly washed/cleaned.
  3. Put every ingredient in the blender.
  4. Add ice, mix well and enjoy!

The recommended dose for the most benefits is around 300 mg. That’s a lot to add to smoothies, which is why I recommend taking it to my clients as well.
