3 Juice Recipes to Beat a Cold Faster

I didn’t even know what cold season was until I had children. Every mother in America knows what cold season really means; cranky kids, sleepless nights, daytime bingeing, lack of exercise and no sex with your partner, brought on by clingy sick kids (or even your spouse). Plus, the sexy meter plunges quickly when you’re living in your flannels for days, at which point, the only thing keeping you sane are those two tickets to the tropics that your spouse bought for the two you. The beach cannot come soon enough. In the meantime, you’ve got a bikini body to worry about and getting sick is not on the agenda. Period.

But relax, because stress weakens your immune system. I know, totally unfair.

So how can you come away from cold season unscathed, without all the tragedies I mentioned above? Well, these 3 juice recipes will help you out and here’s why…

Benefits of Juicing

  1. Juicing your vegetables will boost your immune system.
  2. Juicing gives your digestive system a break.
  3. Juicing throws a highly absorbable dose of vitamins and minerals directly into your bloodstream for some serious cold-fighting ninja moves.
  4. Juicing will turn off that “hunger” signal in your brain that may have been in overdrive through the holiday season, so getting into that bathing suit may be easier on your ego than you thought.

Drink any one of these juice recipes first thing in the morning, before your breakfast and you will be kicking your body into high gear for the day. And your kids can join in on the fun too by helping you clean and prepare your vegetables and fruit (my kids love taking turns putting it through the juicing machine!).

Rainbow Juice
 
Serves: 4 - small servings
Ingredients
  • 2 cups frozen cranberries (thawed)
  • 5-6 small navel oranges
  • 1 large pink grapefruit
  • 1 small lime (peeled)
Instructions
  1. Wash and prepare all vegetables and fruit before juicing.
  2. Alternate ingredients as you place them through your juicing machine.
  3. Drink right away, repeating daily for at least 7 days.

 
The Cold Blaster
 
Serves: 1
Ingredients
  • 1 lemon (peeled)
  • 4 celery stalks with leaves
  • 1 english cucumber (peeled if not organic)
  • 1 Granny Smith apple (peeled if not organic)
  • 1 bunch of cilantro
  • 1 small bunch of curly parsley
  • 1 piece of ginger, about 2” in length
  • Sprinkle of cayenne pepper on top before you drink
Instructions
  1. Wash and prepare all vegetables and fruit before juicing.
  2. Alternate ingredients as you place them through your juicing machine.
  3. Drink right away, repeating daily for at least 7 days.

 
Mean Green
 
Serves: 1
Ingredients
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 piece of ginger, about 2” in length
  • 2 cucumbers (peeled if not organic)
  • 5 leaves of kale
  • 5 leaves of swiss chard
  • 1 large handful of spinach
  • 1 green apple
Instructions
  1. Wash and prepare all vegetables and fruit before juicing.
  2. Alternate ingredients as you place them through your juicing machine.
  3. Drink right away, repeating daily for at least 7 days.

And there you have it! You are well on your way to dodging that seasonal cold virus that’s floating around, just in time for your warm tropical get-a-way.
