2 Essential Oil Recipes To Soothe Your Next Sunburn!

Written by: Kirsten Cowart

The world is going to start heating up, especially as we start moving closer to summer. That means more outdoor activities and fun in the sun! With more sun exposure comes more risk of sunburns. Even with preventative measures such as hats and sunscreen, we all find ourselves getting burned at times.

Unfortunately, skin cancer has become one of the most common causes of cancer in the United States. 2.5 million people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year.

The good news is that, if you are careful and work to sooth the burn quickly, then you can help prevent more serious problems later on in life. Once you notice that you have gotten burned, I recommend one or both of these two essential oil remedies so that you can soothe the burn and heal quickly.

Quick Sunburn Remedy On-The-GO!
  • 3 drops of tea tree oil
  1. Using your fingers, apply 3 drops of tea tree oil to the burned area and repeat 2-3 times each day until the skin has healed.

Why Tea Tree Oil?

Tea tree oil is a super common ingredient in salons, spas and pharmacies worldwide. This natural oil comes from a small tree in Australia where leaves and twigs go through a steam distillation process. Tea tree oil helps the body with dandruff, infections, wounds, respiratory issues and coarse sunburns.

Sunburn Relief Spray
WARNING: Do not use the helichrysum essential oil in this spray on children under the age of 12, as their bodies and systems are too sensitive to the effects of this oil.
  • 1 ounce of purified water
  • ½ teaspoon aloe vera carrier oil
  • 2-4 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 1 drop of helichrysum essential oil
  1. Pour the water and aloe vera carrier oil into a small glass spray bottle.
  2. Add in the lavender and helichrysum essential oils to the water and shake well to blend.
  3. Spritz this blend on your burnt skin.
  4. Repeat this treatment as needed until the skin is no longer red and painful.

Why This Spray Works

Lavender is a wonderful plant that has a natural calming effect as well as a great cleansing quality. Aloe vera will calm the burn while reducing inflammation. After the burning stops, the aloe will help to stimulate new tissue growth. The helichrysum oil will aid in the healing while also working to reduce scarring.

Summer is just around the corner and with that being said, we are all seeking the best methods to either prevent or alleviate the issues of sun burns. These alternatives to traditional sunburn lotions can really assist in reducing pain and promoting skin growth while also keeping you safe from conventional toxins.

Have you found any other alternatives that can help with sunburns? If so, we would love to hear all about them in the comments below!

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
