2 Common Excuses That Are Hindering Your Weight Loss Efforts
By Nancy Boudreau
So, how are you doing with that New Year’s Resolution to finally lose weight? Um… yea… me too.
It always starts the same way doesn’t it?
- You have your healthy meal plan in hand, you purge your kitchen of all processed foods and stock up on fruits, veggies, lean protein and some healthy snacks.
- You dust off the blender, get some plant-based protein powder and start your day off with a green smoothie.
- You sign up for a couple of fitness classes and schedule them on your calendar.
You’re hitting the gym, shopping for and preparing healthy meals, feeling energized, your clothes are starting to fit a little looser, life is good!
And then the inevitable backslide begins… There’s a project deadline to meet at work and you have to stay late a few nights in a row, so you end up missing a couple of workouts. You and the entire family come down with a killer cold and nobody has the energy to go grocery shopping, so the takeout menus come back in rotation.
And you’re back at square one. Again.
Why is it that we start every weight loss plan so motivated for change and as soon as there are a few bumps in the road, we’re ready to throw in the towel? It’s as if we believe if we don’t follow the plan to the letter – perfectly – every day, there will be no results and any previous gains we made don’t count.
What do you have to do to finally reach your weight loss goal?
Lose the all or nothing mentality.</b>
Focus on progress, not perfection and plan for the inevitable setbacks, because they will happen. You know what setbacks I’m talking about; “Well, I had a piece of cake at the office party, so what’s the difference if I have the second glass of wine with dinner – I’ve blow the day anyway!” or, “I missed my last two workouts, why bother going to class tonight.”
Even if you don’t follow your plan perfectly, something is always better than nothing.
Here are 2 of the most common excuses that threaten to derail your efforts and what you can do to overcome them.
1. I Had To Work Late So I Couldn’t Work Out.
Get a couple of workout DVD’s so that you have an alternative to do at home, no matter what comes up in your schedule. Better yet, do your workout first thing in the morning. You’ll feel energized and proud – you’ve already accomplished your exercise goals for the day before breakfast! Even if you only have 10 minutes, decide, commit and follow through. Remember, baby steps lead to big results over time. Start with where you’re at.
2. I Am So Hungry! I Can’t Eat Anything on This Diet!
First of all, diets don’t work, lifestyles do. So what you should be working towards is creating a healthier lifestyle for the long-run, not just the next 30 days.
And don’t try to compensate by skipping meals or drastically cutting calories, as these strategies will only slow down your metabolism. Get back on your healthy program asap! You don’t have to wait until tomorrow or Monday. Begin again… right now. While preparing most of your own meals is best, you can still find healthy options while dining out. Start your meal with a veggie-packed salad with vinaigrette dressing. Keep the entrée simple: some roasted, steamed or stir fried vegetables with grilled or broiled protein. Stay away from anything deep fried or with creamy sauces. Most restaurant portion sizes are for 2 -3 servings, so ask for a to-go container immediately and take half of it home for your next meal.
Just because you’ve had a less than stellar day, week, month or year, there’s no reason to give up on your resolution to get healthy. Life happens and can derail the best of intentions. Focus on progress, not perfection. Regardless of how long you’ve fallen off the wagon, it’s never too late to start again.

Make use of this information to hype up your very own detoxification! Start now!
The detoxification process can also take in the form of a juice fast. Here at FitLife.TV, we recommend people to try the Alpha Reset (AR). The Alpha Reset is a 5 Day Juice Fast. It is part of the Juice with Drew System. This is the first step in your detoxification process. If you are just starting out with juicing, do not jump right into a juice fast right away. Just try 1 juice per day along with the rest of your nutrition and see how your body responds. If your body responds well to juicing, then ramp up the number of juices per day. These healthy, nutrient-dense juices can replace that coffee you reach for in the morning or that soda in the afternoon. Here are some of our followers that have tried the Alpha Reset!
