14 Toxin Removing Superfoods To Boost Your Immune System – Saturday Strategy
POSTED ON September 9, 2016 BY Drew Canole
Do you ever get frightened after reading about yet ANOTHER TOXIN in our food or environment?
It is estimated that 21 million pounds of toxic chemicals are released into the environment every year by manufacturers.
Not to mention the hundreds of preservatives, artificial food dyes, emulsifiers, chemicals and additives that you can find in nearly every food on grocery store shelves.
It may seem like there is nothing we can do. Because no matter how hard we try we are going to be exposed to toxins at some point or another.
Luckily, mother nature is more prepared than we are!
If you load your diet with the following superfoods, you will strengthen your body’s natural ability to DETOX and flush bad guys right out of your system.
How cool is that?!
Garlic is known as one of the earth’s greatest health tonics. It contains a substance called Allicin, which is an antibacterial that is equivalent to a weak penicillin. You can use garlic for the common cold or allergies.
As you can see, I have looked into the benefits of turmeric A LOT. It is one of my very favorite spices and I take it in supplement form daily.
Did you know we have our very own turmeric supplement? You can try it here.
Chlorella is a single celled microalgae that is loaded with nutrients needed for many bodily functions. This is one of the very first super foods I ever purchased!
Chlorella may help to slow down the aging process. It contains chlorophyll, which is an excellent detoxifier and cleanser and actually binds to unnecessary material in the body (heavy metals, toxins, etc.) and removes them. It also supports the liver.
Chlorella is a rich source of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that protects cells from free radicals. Some evidence shows that chlorella, which is rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals, may help to relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia and other similar disorders like hypertension and ulcerative colitis.
This one may be a surprise to you but eating cucumbers is actually an effective way of flushing toxins out of your digestive system! Cucumbers boost hydration, provide a surprising number of vitamins and minerals, help to curb appetite, alkalize the body and may even have anti-cancer properties.
Cabbage is a potent source of vitamin K, vitamin C and vitamin B6. It is also a good source of fiber, which is vital to keeping your digestive system functioning properly.
Cabbage has a little-known nutrient called sinigrin, which converts to AITC (allyl-isothiocyanate). AITC has been found in studies to have cancer-preventive properties in cases of bladder cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer.
#6 Green Tea
Green Tea is rich in catechins which boost the liver’s ability to detoxify. Catechins are some of the strongest, most potent antioxidants that we know of. The catechins in matcha green tea have antibiotic qualities that help with maintaining the overall health of the body.
In general, it’s the array of nutrients and vitamins that give the tea this health coverage, particularly for the immune system. Matcha green tea provides vitamins A and C, protein, calcium, iron and potassium, just to name a few of the essentials.
Green Tea also contains high levels of chlorophyll. The chlorophyll found in the harvested and brewed tea make the tea effective in clearing out heavy metals and other toxins from the body, advancing the detoxification process.
Blueberries have long been known for their medicinal properties. They are loaded with detoxifying antioxidants that support the liver and keep disease at bay.
Some studies suggest that they help to lower bad cholesteroland keep our blood fat and sugar levels balanced. This makes them a great heart food and possible aid for those with type 2 diabetes. Blueberries also help to improve memory.
Thanks to their anthocyanins (a powerful antioxidant), blueberries have been shown to lower blood pressure and possibly speed up metabolism. They are a great source of phytonutrients and are recommended for cancer prevention. Antioxidant rich foods like blueberries may also help to alleviate stress to the body caused by radiation. There is also evidence suggesting they may be a good food for those with PTSD.
Lemon juice contains pectin, which has been shown to help reduce cravings. Lemons also have an alkalizing/cleansing effect on the body, which is another reason why they are good at helping aid weight loss. Lemons are rich in antioxidants, antivirals, anti-inflammatories, flavonoids, potassium and vitamins.
Are you used to throwing away the lemon peel? Not anymore! Some of the lemon’s richest nutritional properties are in the rind! Lemon peels are full of antioxidants, flavonoids, vitamins and minerals that can boost health and reduce risk of illness. Lemon essential oil (one of my favorites) is taken straight from the lemon rind, not the juice. Just make sure they’re organic.
Cilantro binds to heavy metals and removes them from your bloodstream. Research suggests that cilantro lowers LDL (bad cholesterol). Cilantro also has antioxidant properties, calcium, manganese, iron, folic acid, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin A and vitamin K.
#10 Burdock root
Burdock root strengthens your liver and is a diuretic that helps to flush toxins from the kidneys. In traditional herbal medicine it is used as a blood purifier and has been found to detoxify heavy metals from the body. It contains anti-inflammatory properties that have been found to soothe symptoms of arthritis and degenerative joint disease.
Burdock root also helps to heal skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. Studies have found that it may also significantly improve signs of aging and reduce wrinkles.
Burdock root contains a prebiotic fiber called inulin, which naturally helps to manage blood sugar. Studies have found that it may also help with diabetic complications like retinopathy.
Dandelions are one of the most overlooked and yet useful medicinal plants around!
Dandelion promotes bile production, which removes waste products from red blood cells and destroys harmful microbes that might be in your food. Dandelion helps cleanse the digestive system and as also considered a stimulant.
Dandelions create bile that has been shown to lower cholesterol and also break down fat.
Kale really does live up to all the hype – it has high content of fiber and sulfur compounds that have been shown effective in detoxifying the body and supporting liver function.
Studies have shown that consuming kale may lower the risk of having at least 5 different types of cancer! Kale is a great source of sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol, which are both proven to have anti-cancerous properties.
One serving of kale contains about 26 mg of lutein and zeaxanthin; powerful antioxidants that are believed to help prevent eye problems usually associated with aging like macular degeneration.
Research has shown that the calcium in kale is 25% more bioavailable (easier to absorb) than calcium from regular cow’s milk. One cup of kale contains 90 milligrams of calcium, which is about ¾ of the daily recommendation for calcium for the average adult.
#13 Aloe Vera Juice
Aloe vera is an excellent indoor plant, because it has a host of benefits AND is easy to keep alive! Aloe vera was listed as one of NASA’s top air-improving plants and has been shown to emit oxygen at night. Increased oxygen supply at night may help with insomnia and improve overall quality of sleep.
Aloe vera is also known as the ‘plant of immortality’ and can be reproduced easily. Spread this popular medicinal plant all over you house for maximum benefits!
The gel from the aloe vera plant is packed with some incredible ingredients such as fiber, vitamin E, B vitamins, selenium, silicon, enzymes, and aloin. Aloe Vera Juice neutralizes toxins and cleanses the colon.
Aloe also helps to stimulate new skin tissue growth!
Beets are packed with potassium, iron, vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, manganese, folic acid, and zinc. Beet juice is high in antioxidants and known for its ability to cleanse the liver. This is important because your liver performs over 300 vital metabolic functions, mostly dealing with clearing or changing substances in the blood.
Beet juice has also been shown to boost stamina. A study showed athletes who drank beetroot juice could exercise 16% longer than those who didn’t.
Beet juice may also be a helpful tool in overcoming symptoms of leaky gut.
